Fainu re-signs to 2021 (inclusive).

PS coach has a chance to check out the players. Locking up the young kids long term without much fuss.
How many more players do we have to shed before we are ok. We seem to be shedding more players than any other club and look at the Tigpies the strife they are in and they supposedly dont have to get rid of anyone, same with the sharks. If we keep shedding, we wont have a team
We will do some adding yet. It's all good. But first lock down the youngsters DES likes the look of long term.

I would prefer a hooker with strong forearms and crisp strength behind the pass, along with passing off the ground with decisiveness, not pick up look around and throw a weak short predictable pass.

Being able to pass long with crispness offers more variety and can stretch the middle defense more, otherwise the defense can tighten up around the middle and nullify many short plays with defensive numbers

To me sharpness out of dummy half is secondary to quality intelligent ball distribution, having both would be great though.

Yes sharpness out of dummy half is important to have, less so if refs continue blowing the whistle and creating stoppages. (i'm in favour of blowing the whistle by the way)

Manly lack a smart composed intelligent player, this is where having a smart intelligent coach can bridge that gap.

Cameron Smith is like Larry Bird of the NBA, high game IQ, not all that fast out of dummy half, not even all that great with ball distribution at times, but always one step ahead of others.
Love the Larry Bird analogy, nicely done TC

Rumours going around that Koroisou to Eels announcement Christmas Day. Could justify Fainu's signing not announced by the club, yet.
Any news on API and Eels having a Christmas get together??

Yeah i be strange to release api imo. I be honest i was a non believer when parcell went but he surprised alot.
Facts are while his passing is questionable his running game is not and while he misses some he alot more agressive than fainu currently.
What we need is rest doe api for 20 which fainu can provide, i noticed many questions my call on fainu defence to api some of his misses where horrible front on jersey grabs what he has over api is stronger passing but he not as dynamic out of acting half also.
I hope mail wrong and given its dickheads on twitter on pretty certain there come up with pipedream themselves.

My friend if we lose Walker who are going to be our centres? You're assuming we can just buy somebody but what if we can't and what if we buy a dud
What I was trying to say mate is yes if we lose Walker wont be good , and no meaning we will survive as he is obviously a loose cannon. I'm not assuming we can just go out and replace him , but I'm sure Hasler will have something up his sleeve . There is options by moving Trbojevic to the centres with Suli and moving Hopoate or young Anderson to fullback . Something will fall into place.

How will Des have something up his sleeve? Like most coaches who move and bring in players, Des has come and our roster has subsequently lost Kelly (Des approval) and potentially Walker (not of Des doing), so we have gone backwards quality / depth wise.

There also has to be something available in the market (besides Jennings, it's really thin).

People are making out Des is the holy grail, and just "makes things happen".

Well, he was returned as the saviour, but that saviour has absolutely 0 talent looking to come with him (which is actually quite rare).

He'll get a lot out of our reserve grade backline (don't get me wrong). I love him and think he's amazing, but he's not the Messiah like everyone is saying.

I share you concerns about our back line. But I am optimistic a couple of the younger ones will step but that will only be possible if the new five eight can do his job. The timing of the Walker problem is not great and his matter is unlikely to be determined much before the season opener. So this is tricky as far as signing a quality replacement if necessary is concerned. At least we have an experienced head on the helm.

One thing is for sure is that Des is a proven winner. Des can easily take this squad into the finals. He is the mad scientist that runs a very tight ship that's not going to say he is happy with how the boys when after a loss. Trent might be a good bloke but 1 of the softest coaches Manlys ever had. Des is the single best appointment to run this organisation.
Filling the coaching staff with Sea Eagles through all grades is something of an act of a Messiah compared to where it was.
He might not be signing players right now for tomorrow but he would be putting systems in place for the long term.
This is a marathon not a sprint. Bring on the next 10 years!

Des is unquestionably one of the three best coaches in the premiership. His record speaks for itself, but yes he is not the messiah. But he is several steps up from what we've had.

We all know Des has taken two clubs, Manly and Canterbury, from the doldrums and made them premiership winners or contenders five times in 14 years. He pulled the dogs up 8 places with virtually the same side in his first year, and grand finalists the following year. He brought the Sea Eagles from near the cellar to grand finalists in 2 years. He has the coaching gift, but then he had the rising brilliance of one of Manly's best ever collection of stars and had an impressive stable of players at Canterbury also developing. He can, like Bellamy, bring out the best in players, but he needs the talent to work with. No coach can succeed with a team of reserve graders.

Next season, with the talent Manly has, and as long as they sort out the three quarter line problems, Manly should jump up several places and could even reach the finals. By 2020, with a few of those talented juniors in the wings (if Manly keeps them), Manly will begin its climb into the finals. But we cant expect too much in 2019, and there will be times when we'll gnash our teeth and rent our garments (even spill our beers) wondering if there is a future. There is, but patience in bucket loads will be required. There's a lot of work to be done with this side before they become serious challengers. They've been developed like a rabble, and getting that out of their system will take time.

Interesting the way you see things Ryan . Last season we had one of our worst seasons in the history of our club under CoCo boy and without even seeing a game played in 2019 under Des you are saying we have gone backwards .
Some how I dont think we will have another backward 2018 season in 2019 mate . You even said that your self . So how are we going backwards if this is the case ?
I think our young players will prove you wrong with your zero ratings .

I actually wouldn’t expect any players to be following him - He’s been out of the game for 12 months so whilst he may have some links to players, he hasn’t had that day in day out interaction for some time so I doubt there would be any expectation that he’d be bringing players with him.

Your tough mate , he didn't do to bad last time he was here with a bits and pieces side . Try and see the positive side.

True but it MAY make signing with Manly more attractive than when pretty boi was "running" the show?

Absolutely mate - I think Manly is a far more sellable destination now than with Barrett. In saying that we may not see this until the salary cap reduction is finished at the end of 2019.
