Jake Trbojevic, who captained the Blues to last year's Origin series win, has been ruled out of the May 28 State of Origin series opener at Suncorp Stadium after suffering a Category 1 head knock while playing for Manly against North Queensland.
He was attempting to tackle Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi and slumped to the ground after a head clash, with team-mates - including brothers Tom and Ben - showing concern for the inspirational forward.
The NRL's mandatory 11-day stand down for concussions applies to State of Origin.
"Obviously it was a really sad sight to see him concussed there," Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold said.
"That’s the second one in the last month. We have a lot of concern for Jake, but he’s up and about. Obviously he will miss next week, and we need to look after his welfare."
