Because Jake is better at passing and tackling than running so may as well give the fans that pay their "hard earned" some value for money.

We already have our inspirational high workload forward so no need to have two with Tolman unless Manly are into "inspirational depth" accumulating.

At least "occasionally" Jake runs some direct lines with intent but as Jake ages that will go also, just like it did with G.Stewart, and Jake is no ball player at the same level of Glenn that is for sure.

Jake is still inspirational though with his efforts and you need that element in a squad for consistency you can rely on.

Well Jake's been nowhere near as effective this year as he has since coming to 1st grade. It's been by far his worst and it's due to the way he's been utilised. He doesn't look happy at all to be honest. He led us last year. This year he's just plodding along.

I hope neither of the brothers get picked. One isn't fit enough and the other form doesn't warrant selection. This SOO series needs players picked on form only not reputation or past.
 
Injuries aside, I don't think physical fitness of the squad is our big problem. [See the 'Morale' thread] 🙂
Even it was, plenty of reasons, such as lack of match fitness for the reserves, disrupted season with mini preseason due to pandemic. Jake had surgery which restricted his prep for this year, AFB too yet they were both still among our best performers.
Not concerned about next year if we get a positive vibe back in the joint.

Jake has always had a plodding element to his go forward but occasionally runs with intent at times in the redzone(more the past) and when there is a roll on up the middle to take advantage of.

Jake is only of worth in terms of playing long minutes to reduce the pressure on the interchange and a tackling machine----the ball playing he can offer really is to make up for a lack of go forward penetration like G.Stewart. Adding kicking to his game against the Storm is great to have in the redzone as there is more space out wide to isolate when a forward has the ball in hand---also because Jake is seen as a link man in the passing chain sometimes the outside back defenders rush up trying to snuff out the deep second man readable plays early on.

What Manly really need is a powerful runner in the forwards who can also ball play a little, this way the defensive line has to take the one on one penetration/danger seriously at the same time being able to play through or at the line very late.
 
Why are we so slow and so unfit. Even our fittest player DCE looks unfit. Every team we have played has looked at least 10% fitter. that is HUGE is professional sport.

WTF is going on with our training. too much weights and not enough running and aerobic fitness?
