Des Hasler Sacked ( AGAIN)

I think it is very very unlikely Des will ever be a head coach in the NRL again. Especially if Josh Hannah makes an immediate impact. Des will likely still do alright coaching in the English super league. Hopefully he is at some point in the future offered/ takes up some kind of support role at Manly.
Is Josh Hannah-Barbera related to Daryl Hannay?

Sorry Uber, I just had to do it!🙂

I too would like to see Des involved in some way at Manly again. I think he was Manly’s greatest coach to date, on top of being a great player.

If this is it for Des, well done to a Manly legend. The architect of our greatest ever moment, 40-0. In my opinion, in the top 3 Manly legends with Arko and Bozo.
I get the sentiment. I just cant share it. He left the club and all of us supporters in 2011 holding several massively back-ended contracts and a seriously lopsided cap and roster. He was also not a big fan of promoting young talent along the way so our junior / pathways cupboard was empty. Then he comes back to club a few years later and ends up suing us. So no I am not a big fan of the guy. So I will be out there this weekend cheering loudly for the tigers and hoping the Titan's get the big spoon. That spoon will complete Des's Trophy cabinet and hopefully the guy will quietly ride away into the sunset!!!

No issue with not being a fan of Des, but I think this bit is one of those urban myths that can pop up on Silvertails.

Des gave quite a bunch of players their debut in 2004.
Then, as the side improved from 2005 and over the following years, naturally there were fewer openings, and certainly fewer times when it would be reasonable to simply ‘throw a kid in to see how he goes’.
Despite this many young players were given their chance by Des, including Travis Burns, Cuthbo, Steve Matai, Clint Halden, Matt Ballin, Shane Neumann, Vic Mauro, David Wlliams, JWH, Kieran Foran, Hodkinson, Buhrer, Dean Whare, Will Hoppa, Michael Oldfield, DCE ….(the list goes on and on but you get the picture)

The fact so many of those went on to decent careers supports the idea that Des's judgment about young players was pretty good.

Anyway, it’s always a matter of judgment (and interesting debate) and fair enough that we don't always agree with the coach.

Just like you can never know what really happens in a marriage, you can never know what really went on behind the scenes between Des and the club. TWICE. All I'm pretty sure of is that we wouldn't have had 2008 and 2011 without him.

HE was such a good coach back then. Imagine what he might have achieved if he'd stayed on after 2011.
