[Resurrected] DCE is the worst halfback in the NRL

Clearly he divides fans, look at all of us right? Either camp Dce or not. At a minimum he shouldn’t be Captain for that reason alone, he’s a divisive figure, point blank. Sometime a leadership change in the playing group is needed. Happens throughout team sport worldwide.

As for Dce being one of our best ever? Will be fiercely debated for ever……… that alone says he’s not. At least to me.

I'm getting off topic but:

You've got me thinking now, we know the club won't take the (c) of DCE, so assuming he retires at the end of next season I wonder who will they go for leading into '26?!

It’s a great question, and honestly hope the coaching staff at the time is all over it. I mean Jake is probably the obvious answer but personally not so sure. And I love Jake..

Really need to be a fly on the wall at training to know, players gravitate to the real leaders. I just know we need a captain to bring everyone together and fighting for each other.

Fanboi till the end hey @‘47ers

That’s right. No grand finals or premierships as captain. Can’t be disputed. 37% win rate as captain…
So how do Tigers and Sharks supporters view the careers of Junior Pearce and Steve Rogers?
Or the greater Rugby League community?
Both mainstays of NSW and Australia, regarded as greats of their respective clubs yet they won diddly squat.

In all honesty @StuBoot , I couldn’t give a fuk about Sharks, Tigers or there respective players, past or present. I only care about this great club, Manly. And I only care about how we will again be a force.

I mean we now have a whole generation of Manly supporters that have never seen us win a premiership ( 2011) Does that not concern you?
Or is just giving certain players raps mean more? For me, it’s about the team, not an individual..

The fact is we have not one but 2 Great leaders in this current squad
We have a Great Leader in Jake the NSW captain and We have a Great Leader in DCE the Maroons captain

What we dont have is a Great Coach IMO
So, if we got Billy Slater in as coach, suddenly we would become contenders with DCE as captain and the current team eh?

@hozza l knew l'd get a response of "l don't care about other clubs".

I care about how we will be as a force too but that needn't diminish the talents and achievements of individual players.

Players can be elite without winning premierships, just as players can be stock standard first graders yet play in premiership winning teams.
With no offence to them will the Glenn Halls or Mark Bryants of the world be regarded as better players than Jake because they've won a comp and he hasn't?

Is that the yardstick?

To say we have a whole generation that haven't seen us win is pushing it, yes it was thirteen years ago but my 18yo remembers.

We've all got opinions on here, could DCE be better? Yes but he is still elite and can't do it on his own.
Is he the cause of our problems?
No
Does he deserve the respect and platitudes that come his way?
Bloody oath he does.

I find the bagging of him as a player, captain and person to be ridiculous just because he hasn't won another premiership.
He certainly hasn't lost us one.

I'd be pretty sure Slater wouldn't sit there throwing out toxic positives about scoring 5 tries when we can't tackle for sh*t..

Agreed. Though I’d be equally surprised if he was able to get this team doing much better as it currently stands.

Slater is smart tactically, and would get us wins we wouldn't ordinarily get. And on the other hand, as a bonus, Slater would probably attract the top shelf players to the club.

I’m not averse to it at all. I like the look of Slater as a coach and if the opportunity presented, I’d happily swap out Seibs for him with a long term vision. That said, I still see a lot of problems with all our money tied up in DCE and the T brothers. I think we need to bite the bullet with the Ts at least and free up some money to build other key gaps in our squad.

Couldn't agree more HKe, Tom's next contract will be considerably less, the same with Jake in what will virtually be there last deal. Unless they want to pick up easy cash in the ESL. Anyway, lot of money saved from the T bros next time.

I would consider gambling on Turbo in the centre longer term if he copped a significant hair cut on his next contract. We would still be facing injury risk, but on a much lower contract, the risk vs reward would be more attractive.

Whole careers of great players won nothing when St George won 11 straight. Or even Souths went on a few of their runs of 5 out of 6 or 4 out 5 years.

When you talk about player ratings Jerime Lui had to get double what DCE got. The divide was that far apart,

For Jerome, Penrith looked like his passion project, his people,

How many games has DCE outplayed his other half this year, maybe twice, even rookies

Yes forwards play a part. Against the panfers manly dominated for a while, as did Penrith. When Penrith forwards went hard Lui dominated, when manlys forwards were on top, brooks went well and DCE went missing.

Forwards have to lay foundation, and did early.DCE looked like he was waiting for something else to come along

If thats what DCE dishes up after origin its clear he is too old to do both. He could have worked from home on sunday

I noticed cronk in commentry. The Penrith halves have run 18 times today and the Manly halves have only…….oh. Changes subject hastily .

manly dont look like a team, rather a group of athletes playing in the same shirts. Captains make teams

The pride jersey. I dont believe any team can survive 10 players forfeiting . It still lingers in relationships and respect i reckon.
Shuster being publicly grilled by coach and captain
We are not a team and none of that is leadership

We are a group of professional footy players. The 2011 group, took unders, played for each other . This group doesn't hold a candle to the team unity. Forget skill

DCE talks to ref, but jake talks to players. Surely that says something about us

Manly’s own Roy Bull, universally regarded as one of the great post-War frontrowers, played in three losing grand final teams.*

It would be great one day to see his name on a new grandstand at Brookvale.

*He made the Centenary of Rugby League (in Australia) Top 100 list back in 2008.
