[Resurrected] DCE is the worst halfback in the NRL

get yer teeth into this one then....

Don't be surprised if rugby league's best 'Mr Fix-it' - James Maloney - makes a return to the NRL in 2021.

Maloney's NRL career looked to be over when he jetted out to France with his family to join Catalans on a three-year Super League contract late last year.

But just four games into Maloney's new deal, COVID-19 shut down Super League and its future remains clouded.
Ok.. out of Maloney green and foran id like Maloney. He's a little **** we'd fall in love with and he's a winner.
Warriors GF
Roosters GF
Sharks GF
Manly... GF?

Edit. I havent been informed Maloney is 35 so scratch that haha

Blake green not wanted by warriors. Foran off contract. Panthers have young halfback Burton and same with broncs in Dearden. Maybe Des will stick with walker.. if fainu gets off and plays next year then we can manage with walks and dce in the halves

Until we play better up tempo football, faster play the balls, off loads and get a decent hooker cannot see too much changing.

some interesting articles coming up today about Api being one of the big reasons why Nathan Cleary is playing a lot better, because Api takes the pressure off by holding up the defence, attracting markers, and giving Nathan much more time to attack. Plus their middles are getting quick play the balls.

Cleary, speed and seven crucial minutes: Breaking down the rise of the Panthers

Api wasn't utilized well under Des, Brookie being a generally slow slippery track doesn't help his up tempo engage the markers play either.

I mentioned last year that Api will do well at the Panthers with a coach that believes in him and playing on faster tracks away from Brookie more often.

In saying that his slow loopy ball service out of dummy half shortens up the lateral game a fair bit if there is no space around the markers to exploit, giving the halves less time and space when the team is not going forward.

Our main issue(for a few years now) is a lack of power explosive straightness in our sets, too much looking for second phase play instead of just hitting the line at pace with numbers in support to take the pressure off the lead runner and keep the defence honest.

As much as we love the numbers of AFB and Marty etc sometimes their numbers are ineffective numbers and generate slow play the balls(being held upright but reasonably contained adding a few more metres) or second phase play that sometimes is over valued and doesn't amount to much(other than the hope it fatigues the defensive line eventually in an accumulative way)

. Most of Manly's attack came off the forwards rolling forward through the middle last year. Manly were ranked number one in this department. Marty and AFB rarely get taken to the ground either and usually take 3 defenders to stop them. Problem this year is a hooker which has no footy smarts. Can throw a ok flat pass but that is really ineffective today's game, need to engage defence first. Also feel we are missing impact off the bench, Jetski and Paeska really offering not much, and missing the impact of Faniu off the bench too. Surprised not too see a sipley type get a go

But your right in that, usually the team that simply just runs harder and tackles harder wins. Think we all still have that memory of last week's game in our heads - pretty ordinary performance.

Would like to see the whole team come out tomorrow and just play hard and run hard

Cleary was just saying how much Api has allowed him to open his game up by drawing the markets and giving him quality ball. DCEs form is greatly affected by Levi in my opinion. I hope Danny can improve, otherwise it might be a long year for our halves.

Exactly, Levi is pretty avg. Hooker is such an important position, gets their hands on the ball more than any player and controls the game. Use to love when Faniu came on, attack always went to another level

Do you think any player that plays for Manly is any good?
Yep Turbo is a match winner but not much good sitting on the sidelines half the year ,every year. AFB is the best prop in the game , Jake Turbo the best lock, Siro is a topline 2nd rower, Walker is a champion center not a 5/8, Suli has the potential to be the most damaging center, Taupau is a top prop, Thommo is a great 2nd row worker. The rest are average. DCE just doesn't live up to the hype I'm afraid.

I agree, but I rate DCE best half in the game@:) And Faniu will be great.

Just stiring by the way.

Another problem is they are are still punching through, engaging three defenders but when the ref calls held they’re getting put on the deck but that’s negates any advantage they may have gained.
Happens most games with most teams so it’s not just us that it happens to.

All those players do there best every week but with DCE very rarely. I don't want to talk crap about our players but the criticism regarding DCE is well deserved. He is like a passenger on the field which hardly injects himself into the match when he is payed to do so. His short kicking game is the worst in the competition which is sad so that makes him the highest payed half that cant kick short.
