Rarely injured, fantastic with the media and fans, current Australian halfback, great team first guy, current captain, kicks goals when required, game winner (those field goals....wow). True character and class through pressure and adversity (when it seemed the world was against him).

Certainly makes any sour grapes posts I made about him when I thought he'd signed with the Titans look absolutely rubbish, and me like a true arsehole (and clueless).

His cap hit as the cap continues to rise (given length of contract) is extremely smart. Massive win for our great club.

Completely agree with that.

Which is why it was so pleasing to see DCE run less and do the team thing tonight and put boot to ball.

The settling grubber over the sideline at the 20 minute mark. It was 2011esq. The grubber into the ingoal from an attacking position.

When our halfback actually thinks organise and steer, everyone around him is so much better for it. Walks and Turbo can pick up the slack.

PS when he runs it is magical.

But this team doesn't need helter skelter and poor options on the last, if they can become calm and composed under pressure they have the ability to win it all.

Don't change a thing from tonight game DCE.

Let's drop how the old negotiations went wrong with DCE some years ago and just keep to the facts he is on Massive coin....
As time has gone by I have witnessed numerous "Massive" deals for players that are so hot and cold they should be served at a buffet.....
Another thread lit a candle I have had watching many (Non Manly) games, many players like Latrell Mitchell, Milford, James Roberts and more particularly halves like Ash Taylor, Corey Norman, Morgan, Shaun Johnson, Moses (though I think is in for a good 2020 and in comparison for value as a player, DCE should be worth 4 -5 times ANY of them....so I recall how heavy DCE was judged after signing the forever Manly contract....ppl sweating on every error, missed tackle, heck if he blinked too much...
So many other halves go missing when the game is on the line, yet DCE makes Match winning clutch plays with key field position, chases, attacking leadership and the odd FG....most importantly is involved win, lose or draw, unlike many of his rivals in this key position.
To the credit of our Australian halfback DCE, even in tough times he has had a dig, to the point a couple of injuries he got a few years ago were from trying too hard....well in a way....taking hitups when noone else would, pushing passes to create and trying things when the team was doing it tough....but never, could i accuse him of not having a dig and so pleased for him that after a period of having an ordinary team around him, now has a power pack and a few strike players to allow him to show his immense talent.
People rightly have Turbo as our leading X Factor player, but I would not be surprised to see DCE win the best player in 2020 such is his ability and leadership.

It's very clear to me we were lucky to end up with the right half after all.

Certainly has earnt every penny compared to Foran.

My perspective

footy is a different job. Your skills are on display constantly, and even though they are all playing the same game , specialists are a must in your 30

The number 7 is a specialist role. In fact being a fully fledged recognised number 7 is almost the number one skill and the most coinworthy to have on your resume. Its a promotion.

But very few players start careers and know where they will be in 5 years time. Footy has a massive turnover and contract employment is iffy and each club sees you as a missing cog

But if you sign a 8 year contract as a number 7 with a premier team, well life has direction. For the next 8 years you are manlys direction. Whoa big responsability.

So after having the very best upbringing possible, surrounded by Des, tooves, Lyon, stewies, and the hardest edge forward pack in recent times cherry got his grounding. He was then lucky enough to be bought into the qld camp with arguably the 3 best playmakers in the game in cronk , thurston, and smith cherry is now king of manly.

You know like gutho but without being a wanker, but he has been shown the way

For 8 years he will be the kicker because he is the best kicker in the game, captain and leader.
He defends strongly, is committed as any player on field and has a red hot go. Is a great support player, almost terry lambish and is involved all game
But

Both his long kicking game and short kicking game have gone backwards in recent years and its not always about pressure
Its about poor positioning and kick attitude
Its about always kicking from behind the play instead of taking advantage and running to kick
Geting caught on 5 th waaaay to often
Too many bread and butter number 7 jobs, the basics just dont look to be worked on . He really needs to work on some of the most basic number 7 duties
His try assists generally consist of hitting shaun lane or sirro on the chest from 8 m out in recent years
Lacks involveemnt in games early

And his short kicking . oppostion legs are not points my friends

I have a few brothers. My mum like yours grappled to get out names correct when we were being boys. Bajivad i was often called as it has a few letters from all of us, or some stupid combo as she grappled with putting vowels to faces

My mum looking for my name while she was multitasking , is cherries kicking game in the opp teams red zone. Im gonna, run, kick score, tackle, and then the BAJIVID

I have been yelling bajivid at his undecided kick **** for years.

With his future mapped out i just expected his game to evolve a little from being an elusive support player that makes others better where currently its a case of other players having to shine to make him look good.

but this is a hugely unpopular perspective on here, and while i get it its about the footy

I honestly dont see much difference between him and kimmorley when he played for us. kimmorley never had this much talent around him.
Sidenote kimorley is a dick though

Oh his game evolved all right. From churchill medal winner in a losing side all the way until Mr TBaz came along and right royally ****ed pretty much our entire team.

In One of TBs first in depth interviews he went on about making DCE JT version 2.0. What he should have been doing was making DCE version 1.0 better.
With Des back im hoping DCE will start to get back to where he was in terms of game management and not trying too hard.
Hes starting to get a core in the side that can do things without him which in turn should make him a better player.

You can almost 100% guarantee that his salary would be indexed to the cap. He'll be taking a %age of the cap not a fixed yearly figure - cap goes up his salary goes up.

I am a DCE fan. He always has a crack and has heaps f talent. He has been guilty of trying too hard during the dark ages and who can blame him. If he can reel that in and enjoy the luxury of having time to read the play and allowing others to strike making better options more frequently he will become even better and we will win the premiership.

I have DCE definitely a way to go to reach the lofty heights of Johns, Thurston level...only used them in same context as halves that are still human and played ordinary behind badly beaten packs, yet still tried - THIS is a Champion quality.

Correct ... comparing any half to 2 of the games greatest would be an injustice .... would be like comparing Matai to Fulton and Gasnier .....

The reality is that DCE is amongst the top 3 of halfs playing today ... and his contract reflects that status .... and his effort and committment is 2nd to none ... he'll do me as far as the current crop go ...

His 5th tackle options are now amongst the worst in the league., but on here thats ok, chez has tackling to do

There were pivotal moments in the game where he hid. Watch the final 5 again or at the 10 min mark. We have had no ball, off our feet finally get to there end and sirro gets the ball on last. I have heard the term dominant half on here being used to describe chez. Dominat halfs do not get over called often by a new hooker if the want the ball

When the game was on the line chez kept jumping into either dummy half of 4th receiver.

The true perspective ive found is that too many silvertails posters are bedazzled , and know SFA about winning footy games

The 2 last games of last season are about the only games ive seen in years where our halfback knew it was his job to play the team around the park. Before and since, nothing but back up or worse

I still remember writing on here how pissed i would be in cherry went into the origin team and kicked judiciously, and he did to retain his spot . So he can when he needs it

The team effort yesterday we win that game with josh reynolds at 7
And we lap them with moses, would you doubt that. Now thats perspective

Every year he goes into myth mode and has games like this where he goes missing or his options are piss poor.
Siro kicks dead ball passed by dce on 5th
Turbo kicks dead passed by dce on 5th
Dce caught on last 10 out
Not 1 repeat set moses had 3 or 4
He is happy to let walker do most of the work while he sits back. Alot of sets he doesn't even touch the ball. His running game doesnt exist anymore he used to be fantastic and he had an awesome fend... a great show and go and a sublime cut out ball to put the winger away aka wolfman. His bag of tricks has dried up. Last night if he did 10% more we could have creamed them. He came alive in the last 5 mins.... great

A really decent and smart bloke for a rugby league player - check
Most golden point wins of and player - check
When he's on it he's in everything - check.

The not so good points.

Does go missing sometimes
Has some bad games
Kicking game can blow hot and very cold.
Isn't well liked by some.

So yes he has some bad points but the good far outweighs the bad do they not?

When you guys go on about myth what do you actually mean? That everyone thinks he's the greatest halfback the game has ever seen and those people are obviously stupid?
That he's on too much money?
That he doesn't lead the club with honour?
I'm just confused by the term myth.

Lets look at some more top paid Myth players today.
Ben Hunt
Anthony Milford
Shaun Johnson

There are 3 other halves in that list. Would you swap DCE for any of those?

Im not here to say DCE is the best. Im here to say he's the best at the moment for our great club and i wouldn't swap him for any other NRL half currently playing. And that included Cleary or Moses.
