Davvy Moale

The Dodd payout will still go on the Rabbits cap
Yeah, but only the payout.

Just like Man with Shoe's pay out.

Instead of paying the shoe like 850k for each of his 4 year contract, they negotiate 200k went on our cap each year for the 4 years. Or something similar yeah.

Without looking it up I'm sure Dodd was only paid slightly less 750ish+ and for numerous years.

So bunny's should have freed up a good amount to add to their pursuit of Fifi.

Whether we get Davvy in 2026 comes down to Souffs getting Fifita. An early player swap (eg BFB) would have weakened their bargaining power I reckon

LOL @ Manly. Trying to swap Brown for Moale for 2026 but Souths rejected. We can't even give 'em away.
We are trying hard to get him. I don’t know why we offered them Brown lol. They are looking to free cap to get Fifita. We are in talks with the Rabbitohs and we should be able to get him for next year.

Wabbit fans want this to happen next season also. One cheeky fan said Paseka would be a better swap than Brownie lol..Seems they're putting in a lot of faith in the Fifi signing. He's the sort of player that goes MIA when the pressures on. Souths, the last chance salon for Fifi I'd say.

I’d say Bennett is probably the only coach with a chance of finally getting him to play to his potential, but then again, I had the same thought about Shuster.

Fi fi is about $$$$ value
Pay him big, need output in many aspects of play . Not his go

Pay him a lot less and as a bench fwd or moved into the middle in stints like spencer lenui , he is a different ballgame

In a team where they can find and pay his happy medium , he would be great

He is a pinch hitter in a 25 million dollar team

I'm excited by the signing of Moale but I feel we could have a bit of logjam of middles going into next year by bringing him in early. Jurbo, Paseka, TKO, Bullemor, Hetherington, Moale, Navale, Brown, Bryan, potentially Lodge. That's pretty much 1/3 of our roster.

Meanwhile Waddell is still the only backup to our starting backrowers, and Simpkin and Croker (pending medical retirement) the only hookers. Even our backline stocks aren't looking as strong next year with Talau leaving and Garrick seemingly back in the centres?

Obviously needed to beef up our middle but we still need to maintain some balance in the squad, hopefully there a few more moves to come.

If they don’t recruit anyone else, I hope they give Hetherington and Bullemor some extra training in the backrow. I think Hart will be ready by year’s end, but Waddell as our only (!!!) backup until then is deadset disastrous.

I’m similarly worried about hooker. If Croker retires, and Muagututia is leaving (TBC), then it’s Simpkin, ZDC, and no one else. Possibly Brooks, but that is far from ideal.

We won’t have the problems we had in the middle this year, but should we have bad luck in those areas, we are screwed.

Is that not really the same as this year?
Jazz - Hethrington
Siply - Moale
James - Bryan

I mean I guess Jazz was duel hooker/middle but then there is still Alioai.

Agree though that we culd do with another hooker.

At centre we have Feledy coming back, hasn't really kicked oon but still very young

At this stage, we have three locks competing for the one spot (Jake, Hetherington & Navale)
I think they will all be in the seventeen for Round One. Arguably, Jake has a mortgage on that spot (barring another concussion or two) for the 2026 season. If we get Moale early, it gets even harder to find a bench spot for both (Hetherington & Navale) of them. It would definitely be a lot easier if we were to play Hetherington on the left edge. Yes, I am well aware that Hetherington is a small middle. However, he was previously a hooker and has also spent time during the last two pre-seasons for the Broncos, training on an edge. I would also start him on an edge for the first twenty minutes, with Burbo, Navale, Bullemore and Moale making up the bench. In my opinion, Hetherington could also cover nine, if Simpkin were to get an injury.

where have you seen Muagututia is leaving? he looks a great prospect

Yes but that was essentially my point, our squad was unbalanced this year and 2026 is looking like it could be similar. Those 3 you mention are all definitely upgrades, but those upgrades (the first two at least) seem to come at the cost of losing Talau or not improving in depth in our other weaker positions like hooker/2nd row.

Can see what the club was trying to do in offloading Brown for Moale but Souths were unfortunately never going to take that swap. Shot ourselves in the foot by giving him a multi-year extension in his 30s after half a good season last year. Even just having any old edge backrower or hooker in that spot instead would make our squad better on paper.

Again hopefully there are more moves to come but with November only a month away the focus will shift to 2027. And so it should for us anyway with the Tom & Jake albatross contracts coming off the books.
