recruitment team working double time.
Done with poaching players from last place Tigers, the Recruitment boys thought- let’s aim for the stars here. And went hunting at the second last placed dogs…….. quality again. You can hear the Cork of the Champagne being popped can’t you?
FMD

Without a doubt he has tried hard at Dogs over the past three seasons.

He must be a hard worker at training and be of great off field value.

Lacks the ability to play first grade in a good side, lucky for him he is at Manly.

Any player that signs a 1 year deal is obviously being signed as depth so I wouldn't stress too much. He is adequate depth in that he is mobile and athletic. I'd sooner like to see Waddell suit up off the bench for a 15-20 minute stint in the middle, than Aaron Woods.

Problem is here at manly, you only have to play one good game before getting a multi year extension. Part of the trbojevic clan you say? Give the man 5 years!!

I'd like to add my FMD to the chorus of FMD's on this thread. Just as I praise Seibold for clearing out dead wood...

But if he's here on the cheap to fill up spots in the 30 then so be it.

From the SMH - primarily about interest in Nathan Brown, but mentions Waddell:

Sea Eagles chasing former Blues forward

Former NSW prop Nathan Brown is in talks to become Manly’s next high-profile recruit.

Having already signed Wests Tigers trio Luke Brooks, Tommy Talau and Aitasi James, as well as Roosters three-quarter Jaxson Paulo, the Sea Eagles are looking for further reinforcements. They have just signed Canterbury utility forward Corey Waddell and have opened negotiations with Brown.
The former Tigers, Rabbitohs, Eels and Roosters forward is off contract after completing a short stint at Bondi Junction. Brown and his manager met Manly coach Anthony Seibold on Tuesday about the prospect of a shift to the northern beaches.

Brown played in the 2022 grand final with Parramatta and made two appearances for the Blues during the 2020 State of Origin series. The 30-year-old has also represented Italy, the Prime Minister’s XIII and the Australian nines side.

In his first year at the Eels in 2017, Brown won the Ken Thornett Medal as the club’s best player. However, they allowed him to move on shortly after signing his last contract extension, a move that led to him playing 10 games for the Roosters last year.

Should a Manly deal be struck, Brown will join a forward pack that already includes Jake Trbojevic, Haumole Olakau’atu, Taniela Paseka, Josh Aloiai and Gordon Chan Kum Tong.

The club has salary cap space after several players – including Sean Keppie (Souths), Kelma Tuilagi (Eels) and Kaeo Weekes (Raiders) – joined rivals over the summer. The departure of the Fainu brothers, Samuela and Latu, to Wests Tigers has also given the Sea Eagles the means to bolster their depth.

In a club statement, Seibold welcomed the return of Waddell, who made 36 appearances during his first stint at Manly.

“Corey brings to us plenty of experience. He has got really strong relationships with many of the players here already,” Seibold said.

“The thing that interested me in Corey is his work ethic. He is a very hard worker. He adds a different sort of dimension to the middle forwards that we have already got.

“We feel like Corey adds further competition for spots and depth to our squad in 2024.”

Brown aside, Manly’s next priority is preparing for their historic season opener in Las Vegas. Seibold is looking over several grass-based training pitches near the city that will be suitable in the lead-up to the event. The club also plans to hold a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra in January as part of its preparations.

I'll go against the grain and don't mind the Waddell signing. I think it would be a good one. I think he'd be not a bad depth player to cover a few positions.
Although the bigger headscratcher is the potential signing of Nathan Brown. Why do this when you have an up and coming similar type player in Caleb Navale....on that note, lets bring back Nate Myles for a 2nd stint.

My father in law a bulldogs supporter suggested that we sign Corey in pure jest a few weeks ago knowing he was an absolute passenger at the dogs… can’t believe even for minimum wages we resigned him… laughable signing considering the young fella in our junior team that played for Fiji on the weekend, he is miles in front of Corey….

FMD.

Are we trying to construct the slowest, softest, mid team in the history of Rugby League?

This dickhead from recruitment comes from a team he'd just signed Koroisou, Bateman, S Fainu, Klemmer, Naden, Papali'i, Staines & others from top end teams, and lands us a bunch of worn out, mid tier has beens.

Thanks for ****ing nothing.

Pathetic. 12th next season, AT best.

Probably an insurance policy if things go south with Schuster again.
If we feel that we seriously need an insurance policy for Schuster we should have never resigned him…. A team with any chance of winning a comp cannot afford to make these kinds of mistakes

I see it as depth. Replacing Sharon.

A 1 year deal, he must be on min salary

Up to Corey to prove himself next year if deserves to be re-signed

Jeez, Dogs fans all over social media are giving it to us ! Even on Manly's official Twitter, a dogs fan goes, "Thank fck he's gone".

I guess someone has to own the laughing stock title.

And why do people need to confer with Jake or Tom about anything? Like Des being let go? Who the hell are they, and what have they achieved at Manly ? Many, many mediocre performances and season results.

Just for some perspective there are plenty on the Kennel upset they let him go. A lot saying he was their best player last year.

If Caleb Navale gets a chance to prove himself then maybe Corey is just there for cover. That is my hope anyway.

Best player hahahaha. Then again, given the quality of our forwards, he might be right up there next season !!

Oh, and for the record everyone, a little inside knowledge, Lachlan Croker is also presently in a sling, recovering from an operation ! A little insider info.
