Considering our injuries

Just a thought. Des has seemed reluctant to blood new players in a team that isn't firing, which makes sense. Now that we seem to be firing quite well, AND we have some relatively easy games coming up, would it be a good time to blood other rookies to give them a taste of first grade. Maybe Burbo to get a run if Schmole is injured for instance ?

What I'm liking too is we're now obviously playing with a game plan plus we're adapting on the field.

Yesterday, both Sivo & Fergo were completely nullified by our backs.

Papali'i was kept pretty quiet too.

Parramatta were offloading at will in the first 10-15 minutes of the game, resulting in Gutho's try.

After that, I dont recall seeing a single Parra offload.

O

Only 2 of those played yesterday tho in what was clearly our best game (including tits win)...

I really think the roles that Keppie, Guac, Tof, Harper and Tent (all borderline or non starters at the start of the season) have played in these wins can not be underestimated... their enthusiasm and effort has been immense and suddenly some of our 'established' players are playing with passion again...
True, but Aloiai is still a gun signing, and Davey on the cheap is as well. What they bring to the club can't just be defined to the playing field. The fact Davey presented Jake with his 150th jersey yesterday was telling.

It is the defence that I am stoked with... our middle has always (usually?) Been strong but our edge defence was terrible and players were coming out of the line to try to cover mistakes...

Harper has been immense alongside Schu, Guac and Parker... Keppie has also gone next level this year imo...

No, it was because an Eels player was put on report for Haumole's head injury. When Haumole didn't pass his HIA, the 18th player was invoked.
Thanks @40 nil... I was not aware it only took 1 reportable HIA to get on the field...

In the current environment I will get a bit excited if I see young Burbo named for the 18 spot...

Parra went into their shell after the 2nd Manly try, and were gone when Parker scored his 2nd when we had Lawton in the bin. 16-6 was too steep a hill for Parra to climb and they knew it, after trying to bust us with a 1-man advantage for 10mins and getting nothing.

It was poetry... 😀

This is such a turnaround from the first 4-weeks though - our middle was wasn;t as strong as it is now, it just wasn't the reason we were getting flogged. The Forwards have improved as their confidence has grown and the new blood has realsied they not only belong in 1st grade, but they can own it (Sipley, Guac, Paseka, Keppie)

It is weird to say it, but I feel like the injuries have been the thing that unlocked our potential, allowing Des to replace injured guys like GoJetski, Boyle, Walker and Siro. Whilst I would argue that those 4 especially had a far tougher opposition sheet to deal with in weeks 1-4, the spirit in the team seems stronger now.

Foran
Cust
Fainu
Gosie

That is a massivie injury toll and a lot of cap space sitting on the sidelines, much is written about how the Roosters are decimated by injury but no one mentions us. Considering the long injury toll our run over the past 7 weeks is nothing short of extraordinary!
What it really shows is how strong our depth is this year and with the next generation of stars in Burbo, Fainus and Koula etc the long term future and success is in good hands.
Whilst it might be a lot of cap space sitting on the sidelines, it has exposed that maybe our cap is skewed a little bit beyond DCE, Turbo and Jake. This has been a blessing in disguise - effort and results are making the decisions on many of these guys' future contract aspirations, so Des doesn't have to appear disloyal.

I wouldn't change the team as it is right now unless injuries, Rep duty or suspension forced it to, why change a winning formula?

These guys will get their returns shortly in Origin as Jake/Turbo will be there without a doubt, DCE is Qld captain (and Munster might be injured still so DCE would be mandatory). Hell, i'd be expecting people to be talking about Schuster for Blues bench utility, kid can play anything! That will give some of these guys a pathway back to 1st grade, albeit temporarily.

Sorry, I should have elaborated. Apart from the 3 x HIA, there is also allocation for 18th man where there is foul play which causes any injury whereby the injured player cannot complete the game. The offending player needs to be put on report at the time. This should have happened when Dylan Brown kneed Drew Hutchinson in the back in the recent Eels v Roosters game. Brown was only put report after video review at half time . Meanwhile, Hutchinson was taken to hospital with serious rib injuries. If Brown was reported at the time (for foul play, obvious to everyone watching except the officials), the Roosters would have been able to invoke 18th man & get Suaalii into the game. This could have changed the result as they had only 15 players for the second half.
