Clubs agree to $9.4M Salary Cap

All the first class facilities available won't help you if your playing talent isn't up to it.
All the money and all the first class facilities wont help if the coach does not recruit and keep the right players at the club as well as being able to coach them effectively

Des hasn't changed ???
When was the last time you have seen him feathered friend ????

@ Bozo...if I may take the liberty of making a slight contemporary adjustment to your photo of Des to embrace all that is Belmore

I'm one who is unimpressed with the new cap.

The game needs a fresh approach to compete effectively with AFL. Instead the Board has capitulated to the demands of 16 clubs in a top heavy league system. They had in my mind a chance to expand the game at its top and its roots. Instead it succumbed to the demands of clubs on a cap induced rising spiral of trying to out-compete each other while the game falters at its foundations.

The country and junior comps are being out-competed even in NSW by the AFL, whose tentacles are driving further and further into the rich player resources of this state, while League concentrates its efforts in appeasing these few short term thinking clubs.

With the extra payout from the media, we could have included Perth and a second Brisbane side by now. This would have in the longer term increased crowd support at grounds and TV, a greater interest in those areas for young League players to develop, and a greater argument in the next media payment negotiations for a significant revenue increase owing to greater audience interest.

Every couple of hundred thousand dollars paid to the clubs is a couple of hundred thousand dollars denied the growth areas of the game. This administration is without foresight or imagination, reactive to the core

Ray Dib is publicly delighted so that goes someway to telling us that the Dogs cap situation is safe under the new cap.

There was an article two days ago saying that Manly were opposed to a 9.6 cap so given this one is only 200k off that mark, I'd say Manly is hardly over the moon.

Graham will stay at Dogs now and definitely Klemmer.
Manly reportedly want the cap to be 9.2Million

It is understood the main sticking points include the RLPA’s push for a guaranteed revenue share and other areas such as a say in integrity issues, insurance plus wellbeing and education programs.

While the salary cap figure is understood to match the RLPA’s expectations, it too is now thrown into question because a cap figure cannot be signed off until the rest of the CBA is agreed upon.

So what does the rlpa rejecting the 9.4 cap mean for next year?? Back to negotiations?
It means the Dogs, Roosters and Co are wanting more money, so they do it this way to avoid looking like the greedy turds that they are. Greenturd should show some kahoonas and tell them all to get stuffed, this is what you have work with it.

Who runs this game???

The salary cap should have a ceiling that includes all third party payments because the inequity is growing wider and wider. What is happening now is not sustainable and the whole idea of an equal playing field is anything but.

We Sea eagles have exclusively the whole North Shore area and I cant see why we should be disadvantaged .
Our only disadvantage in our own inability to make the most of what we have

The third party sponsorships should not be allowed to be dependent on the player being at any particular club.
Let the players earn what they can. Let sponsors use an individual player's fame to support their products.
But it should not be on the basis of 'only if you sign to play with Easts/Broncos'.

Innovation imagination and creativity can change the Easts/Broncos scenario .

Our mind is our biggest asset and the NRL should not spoon feed clubs .

Tell me Bozo, how are we supposed to compete against News limited and the endless funds the Donkeys get from them? That are a stratosphere ahead of us and every other club in relation to what they can offer a player.

Due to the assistance of the salary cap we have competed well and have won premierships
Brisbane with all the News limited funds has not won a premiership since 2006 and we have won 2 in the years 2008 and 2011
We have the whole North Shore area to our selves and we also have BOZO, and with the right business management plan we can be in a much better financial position
A clubs biggest asset is its business plan

The RPLA need to be careful with how much of the pie they take. Its a short minded view to the game.

If investment in grass roots and other areas of the game fall then over time you will lose fans. In particular younger fans. Look at Super rugby, its struggling big time.

Couple this with the fact that media is changing and Free-to-air is predicted to be killed off by streaming services, the demand for the NRL from a media stand point may fall. If Fox becomes the only player their not paying $2B+ for the sport and the NRL would have to sell the service themselves or hope someone like Google/Netflix/Amazon bids for rights.

If they sell the services themselves they are in the subscription game were they're not guaranteed revenue like they are now with media deals.

Long story short, if not careful, this may be the peak for salaries.

NRL admin needs to grow a pair, and run the NRL for the good of the NRL, not the whingers like the bulldogs or Scam Smith.

The simplest thing to do in accounting is to move monies around different income classes

The RLPA will soon find that the 'revenue' column reduces each year @:p

What they need more than anything is better insurance coverage for retiring players :wait:
As the size and speed of the players increase, the long term injuries are also increasing. All their joints are shot and in need of regular therapies @
