Club News 2025

Jurbo is not the man to have a licence to infringe IMO.

He is just horrible at hiding his holding down in the ruck appearing deliberate.

His timing seems way off. You'd like to think Jake knows player x is struggling for breath or the line has struggled to get back etc. But dead set his infringements appear to add extra pressure on this team not relieve it and defend when set.

Roosters were the champs at it a few years back now.

But Jurbo has always sucked.

Give Froggy and the other Jake a go.
Jake is the player who is actually in the play when we need to slow momentum - because he is in almost every play!
Another factor might be that Jake is the NRL's nicest guy, so maybe a little extra pressure on a ref not to bin him 🙂
I have to admit I'm surprised by the number of posters writing Jake off. The guy is a champion, and we don't have many (in fact right now we've only got 3)

He's a good player.

But I won't call him a champ till he walks around the field carrying the trophy.

It's as simple as Team has over relied on Jurbo in the ruck.

But let's not keep making the same mistakes.

Let's have more men that can defend that ruck, and give the infringements licence to someone else.

Very interesting.

I wonder though under what circumstances you'd give away a possible additional set of 6? I'd say when your defensive line is getting exposed for example. Wouldn't it be more prudent to coach a team to stop allowing the exposure in the first place?

Then again, we definitely aren't the biggest offender with penalties conceded (9th in 2024), not sure if that does or doesn't include 6 agains...I for the life of me couldn't find that stat
Most likely when the ball has been turned over with play continuing & the defence hasn’t had a chance to reset - that results in a 6 again on the first tackle, so it’s really only a 7 tackle set.

Other scenarios could be when a player is injured in a tackle & fails to get up & reset in defence & the opposition keep rolling through.

It goes on all the time.

@Ryan its in the NRL second bottom drawer just above the explanation of the Rorters salary cap.

Another interesting training video I spotted on Linkedin - haven’t seen it elsewhere on Manly socials

Nice but sadly reminds me of seeing the Swans run the hills endlessly in Centennial Park. It was truly astonishing speed and endurance.
Different game I know.

A tad easier than running up the sandhills as Bob Fulton got the army boys doing back in the day

Unfortunately Jake gives a lot of these away, I think because referees have "tip sheets" and single him out
Jakes cerainly does infringe.

His copybook technique allows players to really exaggerate his crowding of the mark which he should be allowed to own more , as player on his back can roll up and any contact allows the manoeuvre of being felled back look forced . Its debateable

On top of this jake is in the ruck more than most and is often first man in , last man off,
He makes many desperate one on one tackles where speedy play the balls are a tad more dangerous
And is rarely rewarded for what are dominant tackles and i think this is where the tip sheet mentality does get applied

He does have the odd poor read in defence crowding which i am sure he is working on.

There’s no doubt a lot of 6 agains are given away purposely,

It’s the ones on the last tackle , close to the line that are the annoying ones.
Storm to kick off long , first kick off .
Some hands on hips fwd that watched 4 other games caught with pants down
Maybe it will be a cowboys kick off reading that

I wonder what rule change we will be 15 th to get our heads around this year

Will short kick off and drop out kings becomes specialists and in demand or will it be union style line out players that get possession back like and old style hooker or play the ball rake like ian roberts and elias were kings at

Mark harris dropkick or the ross conlon schuper boot
Does pat richards become in demand as a coach or are we looking at a future where the roosters o4 the dogs introduce a bionic kicking tee
