He’s obviously coached to do it as well. It’s usually when our pack is under the pump and back pedalling.
Exactly, not all ruck infringements are created equal.

An infringement on the 1st or 2nd when we are under the pump which allows us to reset our line and press forward can be quite valuable.

You're making excuses mate. 27 combined infringements (giving a fresh 6 again) or outright penalty, for one player, in 24 games isn't acceptable. Unfortunately, Jake can't magically speed up, so his clearing of the ruck is probably the best he can do, with the attributes he has. Lots of plus sized players tend to play that way. It's just physics. We now have quite a few of them (Tevaga, Taukeiaho, Sipley, Jake, Brown etc etc)

I know a few people who have been in NRL systems and can tell you for a fact that players are coached to concede a 6 again in the right situation.

Roosters in particular are a club that uses the dark arts well. Its why the NRL tweaked the rules to make RI within your own 40m a penalty.

One of the reasons I'm not big on 6 agains and would prefer simple penalties.

I remember partway through one of the COVID seasons & abuse of the 6 agains by teams under the pump came under the NRL’s scrutiny & they implemented the 3 strikes & send off rule.

The very next game (which I think was Magic round), Jake didn’t concede a single ruck infringement or 6 again, so he knows what he’s doing & is perfectly capable of not conceding them.

Very interesting.

I wonder though under what circumstances you'd give away a possible additional set of 6? I'd say when your defensive line is getting exposed for example. Wouldn't it be more prudent to coach a team to stop allowing the exposure in the first place?

Then again, we definitely aren't the biggest offender with penalties conceded (9th in 2024), not sure if that does or doesn't include 6 agains...I for the life of me couldn't find that stat
