Cleary stays at Tigers

Cleary had no option, as it is his credibility has taken a major hit anyway simply because it took him a few days to confirm he wasn't quitting the Tigpies.
Gould knew this was always likely, I'm sure he has some other scheme up his scheming sleeve.

Ivan Cleary has ruled out a return to Penrith, confirming he will continue to coach the Wests Tigers in 2019.

After days of speculation, Cleary addressed the media on Saturday morning and said he had not received an offer from the Panthers and would honour his contract with the Tigers.

Cleary read from a prepared statement and spoke of the '"misinformation" surrounding his coaching future. He announced he would not take any further questions regarding the issue.

"When I was approached by the Panthers I had no idea it was about coaching their club," Cleary said.

"I was told at that meeting the club was looking at the head coaching position. I advised the Panthers of my ongoing contract status with the Wests Tigers.

"I advised the Chair and CEO of the Tigers of the discussions I had with the Panthers."

Cleary said he had no idea the Panthers were going to sack coach Anthony Griffin last Monday.

"I was as surprised as anyone on the announcement of the dismissal of Anthony Griffin," he said.

"I have not received any offer from the Panthers nor have I asked the Wests Tigers for a release. I am enjoying my contribution at this club and the club is growing nicely.

"I respect the contract I have with the Wests Tigers and I intend to honour this contract."

Cleary made it clear he still wanted to coach son Nathan in the future.

"It is common knowledge that my son Nathan and I have acknowledged our desire to work together at some time," he said.

"That remains the case."

The Tigers face a do or die round 22 game against the Raiders on Sunday to stay in the finals race.

Gus needs someone who bows to his greatness and Baz already had that joy with Bozo :tmi:

Although ZtC's column today was a concerted attack on Baz and his roster management 😎
I don’t think it was an attack on Baz somehow, I think more so on Gorman. I have a feeling that Gorman may have suggested when he comes on board that he runs the show and maybe Bozo can enjoy retirement.

The whole article was about the failure of his retention policy and not acting on sage advice 😕

Bizarre that the Salary Cap fine left for the Club is of no consequence for our retention and recruitment :fubar:

Those wanting TB out are slightly closer to getting their wish.

Trouble is, if we go into the off-season with no coach in 2019 then the club will really be a dope on the ropes.

Be careful what you wish for! No coach = no sponsor = no money = insolvency.

Yes, but Barrett didn’t come in and take over retention. Gorman is in charge of bringing someone in for that, and I suspect had something to do with the opening in the first place. Most coaches don’t run recruitment these days anyway.

Hard to say with Zorba - there is always some agenda and often more than one.
