In Bingle's case it was self-inflicted.  She wanted her $200k payday but couldn;t take the heat that went with it, hence Clakrey boy being summonsed on his trusty steed.  I wonder if she'd figured on him running her through?  She can console herself with that story being worth another $200k, why is beyond me.
