Snake

Snake's Alive!
it’s only my love of Manly that keeps me invested in what has become a terrible product. It’s not even a game anymore. The on-field action and enjoyment of the game for fans, comes second to this obsessive desire with getting everything just right, so the game’s image is maintained in the media.

One of the best things about rugby league was the adrenaline rush of seeing great things happen on the field...wonderful displays of skill and teamwork and the jubilation of cheering things on form the sidelines.

That’s all gone now thanks to the bunker. I can think of many examples, but let’s use Daine Laurie’s catch of the kick off yesterday as example. If I were a Tigers fan, I never would have celebrated his catch. I would have waited for the bunker to scrutinise every in and out of the play before letting my heart rate go back down....

And that’s what wrong with the game. Don’t worry about what you’re ****ing eyes see anymore. That don’t mean ****! Just sit back with bated breadth until the 100 replays finish and then process the information that you’re left with.

There’s no spontaneity anymore and it’s really really sad. That was a terrible decision yesterday, one of the worst I’ve ever seen in my time watching the game...but what’s worse, is the circus that played out to get to such a bad decision. If the ref called it live, I could live with it. Either way. Escort or not. You win some, you lose some. But to come to that conclusion with all the convoluted bull**** of earpieces and captains running up in the refs face and replays and challenges and just...**** me dead what a load of ****.

I've long been an advocate that all replays should be in normal speed. None of this frame by frame stop start forwards and backwards nonsense. Normal speed with what the naked eye and the referee/players and crowd can see. Then we get a true reflection on what happened. This wouldn't have helped the Tigers yesterday btw, they still would have found a way to screw them over.

Yep the Tigers were absolutely rorted - one of the very worst decisions ever. There is no comfort in thinking oh it happened to them or it might have happened to Parra or the Storm and so we laugh. The fact that it happened and was so badly wrong just reinforces the absolute terrible state the officiating/bunker is and how it is compromising our game... badly!

After listening to Anus-ly paddling furiously like a duck I learned:
  • All refs/Bunker officials are honest. They just occasionally make wrong decisions. They are human, folks! My question: how can you be assured they are honest, especially when all sectors of humans contain their share of dishonest people? Politicians, Presidents, Police, CEOs, tradies, Indian call centres, sportspeople, salary cap auditors.... have all been proven to be corrupt at times. What is the NRL doing to investigate the possibility that its officials are squeaky clean?
  • The Bunker has the discretion to intervene on any issue at any time.... that is, of course except concerning forward passes! Too funny.
  • The better clubs get the most luck "because they are better". Wow. Great logic Anus-ly.

Nothing looks like it will ever change until someone in the media has the guts to mention the word "corruption", or a whistleblower comes forward and blows the whistle on a whistleblower.

Keep the bunker for checking tries being scored.

Outside of that, I am happy with the on field ref to make the decisions. Correct or incorrect ones.
This!!!

This is what most people that love the game, want. There will be mistakes but we’ve got them with the bunker anyway, at least this way, the product will be better.

I can cop humans making bad decisions in the moment, that’s the way the cookie crumbles and that’s part of life.

I can’t cop bad decisions when I have to wait 2-3 minutes for them to be made, even when video evidence (that’s staring them back in the face) falls by the wayside. That’s what’s unforgivable and that’s what is ruining the game.

I was a huge advocate for the bunker.
Called for it for years.

It's a dud. I was wrong. I hate it.

Somehow the NRL have taken the joy of scoring a try off the fans. We now all cheer when the "try confirmed" icon appears on the TV or big screen, more than we cheer the try itself.

Honestly, local A grade is a lot better experience these days.

The problem with that is:
(a) That the Bunker can't go back further in the play than the "try-scoring" movement.
(b) Can't rule on forward passes (but can rule on off-side)
(c) Can make up any decision because the Bunker is actually a human who makes mistakes or has gambling debts to finance.

There is so much wrong with introducing technology that is controlled by a human it causes more problems than it solves.

Im a big picture guy and think the bunker is a symptom and not the whole problem.the ref, bunker, video ref is just spreading the blame making determinations more difficult.

having the game in control of a network that makes its living off populist trutth and riding that wave of emotion, on endless cycle is problematic for a game

the leadership pandas to the TV , who manipulate the landscape rather tha; results and the gambling aspect means everyone has the good data except the fans who make it happen

the constant rule changes provide confusion,

manly, i still watch origin but everything else is just product . Been selling it on here for years

And??
Bunker makes the right call when a try is scored 99.9 %

Mate, that is absolutely spot on and exactly what I’m upset about. When we played the Knights the other week, I didn’t get excited about any of the tries we scored, I just sat and waited for the ‘try confirmed’ on the big screen and smiled. That’s not a true fan experience.

If only the fans got more of a say. Instead it’s administrators who don’t actually care about the footy, they just care about their job.

I know this thread’s about the bunker and they declared the shocking decision yesterday but I’m also very put off by the win at any cost, bad sportsmanship shown by Phelps.
He was laughing and rubbing it in. He orchestrated that play and flat out cheated. The bunker rewarded him and the poor tigers and their fans got dudded after that great final try.
Then the cows celebrated like they won the GF.
The game is rewarding cheating and bad sportsmanship.
I don’t really blame the cowboys for what happened, could have been any club, but it’s disgusting that this kind of play has come into the game.
