Match Stats

My key takeaways:

  • we can't defend against 2nd phase play. Any team that goes nuts with offloads buries us. Take note why Parra always gives us grief.
  • Turbo got schooled by Xerri
  • We may be without TKO and Lodge next week if match review doesn't give us some sympathy.
  • Turbo is a better passer in the backline sweep, but Hoppa is the better cover defender
  • The for and against damage done today finished our season IMO. Too tight in the 8-12 ladder spots
  • The Dogs intensity was insane up to the last minute
  • Proved that Melbourne's discipline last week was equally as important as our ticker. Dogs didn't give us a real sniff.
  • When DCE did that 40/20 I thought he was on today and would get us home. Then came the second half...
  • I know he's polarising, but I still think Saab is a game breaker. He's been given eff all quality ball. Yes, he's prone to a shocker, but his height and speed has to be utilised better, nobody else in the comp possesses the traits he has. If Hoppa hits him with a decent pass in the first half we score. Tommy T v2 should be in the centres. That's my opinion.
  • After watching the raiders game today and Fogartys kicking. I look forward to him actually putting a bomb on the try line rather than it landing 10m short and forcing them to try a tap back.

Remember when we used to have good players like Turbo and Turtle… 🙂
That game was pathetic really. Shows we really are a fringe 8 team at very best…
THIS is the game that shows they’re fringe top 8? Thought the losses to Knights,Eels,Titans and the ordinary win against lowly Tigers, should of given that away. The Storm win just showed how poor Melbourne were and almost still got the win

Losing to the Doggies today highlights how important it is to come home with wins over the Knights, Eels and Titans.

It's been our Achilles heel for years and years.

That's Ola out until the semi's hopefully, that's if we make it. Also Lodge and TKO on report, fingers crossed on these two. What a disaster this has been.

Turning point, Kline pulling up the in line pass to Garrick for a certain try. Score would of been 12 - 10 with momentum coming our way. Then not long after Ola does his shoulder again. Them's the footy gods I guess.
Plenty of turning points. Saab dropping the ball under no pressure whatsoever to gift the Dogs their first try wasn't great. Tolu forgetting how to play the ball - not once, but twice! - wasn't great either. Cherry kicking the ball too short every time we had an opportunity near the Dogs' line was equally bad. Just too many mistakes by too many players (Lehi throwing the ball to Tolu when he shouldn't have, etc, etc, etc) for us to compete against any decent NRL side.

Given all those self-inflicted wounds, I'm not inclined to blame Klein for calling that pass from Burbo to Garrick forward. I can live with the call. What I can't live with is our response to that call: ie, falling in a heap immediately after.

Can someone do a count on those that whinged that Hoppa to FB/TomT to centre should happen and are now back flipping
Guilty as charged....however it was more about not having Reuben in the centres. Problem is that Tom has no defensive technique at all. He's just an arm grabber
We urgently need a decent centre.

and that's exactly why I said I wasn't confident before the game and that if we don't play the full 80 that we have no chance.

I think some of the hoppa hate is harsh, I do think he has lacked in his attack and taking on the line with his footwork and speed in his last 2 games and he did miss some defensive tackles but he also put his body on the line and had a great tackle and save with that Tracey no try and a huge play last week taking Coates over the sideline.

Turbo got caught out in defence eventually but we didn't get great field position for him to be able to roam both sides of the field which I think adds a lot to our attack.

I'm not opposed to switching them, I think they both bring different positives to our team at FB, I think Lehi is able to put his body on the line more at FB without worry of serious injury as you could see that was always in the back of turbos mind.

I just think it's ridiculous seeing the forum flooded to switch Lehi to FB and then when we make that change and he has a bad game or two that everyone complains about it and wants it switched back. I saw a comment to put Lehi back to Reggies and that's ridiculous.

Yeah, the dropped ball by butter fingers Saab was unforgivable, no real pressure on the catch whatsoever.

Yeah but I thought this was probably the worst loss this season… So far…. 😛
