Tricky choice, maybe horses for courses. Dogs usually pressure teams with their up-tempo defence and general speed of play, which takes a toll on the bigger guys, so I can see the point in having that extra forward available to share the load.

Some teams use a sprightly 2nd rower on the bench as emergency backs cover - something Manly is short of. Not many sides pick a winger on the bench.
