I noticed he and his brother were absent for the Golden Eagles on Sunday (they've been to these events before). He was previously officially listed as part of our coaching staff for 2024, but was absent from the official list that Manly rolled out for 2025. I am not denying he was on the sideline at the Tigers game, as suggested, but I think he's no longer there on a week to week official basis. Could be wrong.

I sit in the Jane Try and most walk past me to going into the club box. I think the only time i have seen Killer, Gifty etc was in 2021 for the 10 year anniversary of the GF win. Most were there but shoulders Matai wasnt. 😔 Hopefully this may change when a certain long necked team captain leaves.

Except i don think Lyon was a brains type player, just the most unlikely natural footballer you'd meet. Didn't mean he was dumb by any means, just that he played footy without complexity and like only he knew how.

I still think Gifty is the man.
I don't follow the it must be a Manly man.
But pretty much the only Manly man I reckon could coach this team to success without even trying. It's the Gift.

To be fair, to be a realistic chance of getting an NRL coach gig these days, they have to work there way up. And rightfully so, It is a tough gig. They do wear many hats.

Someone with knowledge has suggested Gift has moved on with life.and just wouldn't be interested.

But to answer your question. I guess I've heard some stories from a couple of different places over the years of that great Manly era, that suggest that of all our past players, the Gift had the attributes.

In terms of game plans, mediating matters between players and Coaching staff, Gift kind of got painted as the almost the assistant coach Des needs.

In terms of talking Des into changing his mind, assistants coaches no chance. The only one who could and did often was the Gift.
