Interesting article in SMH today about the NRL structure in comparison to the EPL. Amongst other things discussed it says the NRL has 400 staff and the EPL head office has 140.

They probably don't need a committee of seven to chose a ref each week for starters.

Some very good ideas earlier in this thread.

If push came to shove and the NRL goes pop the sydney clubs minus rooters should get together and restart a NSW based competition and say screw you Bronco,NQ and Melbourne.

Sure the tv money wouldnt be as high but the passion for the game where it all began would push through. We would have just as many if not more fans at the ground as we do now.

The NSWRL in the early 1990s in the Tina Turner era had 4 or 5 in the office including Arko & Quayle. Proof all you need a head body for is to organise the season draw, rep footy, selling replica jerseys out of Best & Less and negotiate on the clubs behalf for tv and sponsors.

Good news is the NRL will amongst the cost cutting have to surely go back now to 13 players (not 17), one referee on the field & no video replays.

Whatever setbacks for the game now , still need to try to grow the game with a national focus and participation . Expansion plans may be a bit delayed now , Manly still seem pretty assured of getting through this crisis one way or another and the old N S W Rugby League format served a purpose once but that era has long gone and would find it very hard to be revived again .
