Yep ... all true ... but you're still hanging your hat on possibilities and potential. and I am not convinced on either .... would rather a proven back-up rather than someone who is adequate... and Hoppa hasn't shown me enough for me to want to gamble 2021 on him replicating his junior form in the 1st grade ...

In the modern game it has been shown that the fullback is now every bit as important as a good hooker or half back ... both in defence and try assists ... and any team that goes into the season with only one of either is headed for a world of pain ...

To be fair Woodsie AJ is not even Souths back up FB as Allen has been chosen I think the last two weeks. There must be something in that if old Benny Boy isn’t picking him. And Bennet isnt the worst judge of a player. Initially I was all for AJ coming but when he resigned with Souths I was hardly dissapointrd. I think he was a bit overhyped here largely due to our desperation to replace the players we’ve struggled with and frustration re Toms constant injuries. I do agree we need a backup to Tom but I’m hoping that could be Hoppa and or Funa at a stretch. The Saab situation is interesting. He purely appeals to me as it gives us an aerial target (that isn’t Tom). I agree on the set restarts tho. We need a winger that can start them well. Or at least have a player there ready for the first tough hit up. Similar to what Brad Clyde took pride in doing.

A Johnson type player would have to be the 1st, 2nd and third priority

Hi Waz, I don't mean we need AJ specifically, in fact from the above quote you can see that what I believe is, we need any player than can fill in at fullback without our win % dropping down into the 20's .... as some people are suggesting Funa and/or Hoppa will fill the role, and they may be on the money .... I am just unconvinced on what I have seen so far ... and I wouldn't take the risk for 2021 ....

I know Tom has had a bad run (ok, that’s an understatement) but the reality is that if we are going to win the comp we need him on the field. While it’s nice to have a competent backup, I don’t think it should be a focus of our recruitment. We should just find the best centres and wingers available.
