I assume that "$600,000 will be paid by the Club" means the football club and not the Leagues Club.

The Leagues Club lost another $400,000 last year and their cash reserves went down by about $1.0 mill. (Financials available in their annual report). Their only asset is the value of the poker machine licences.

However, does the football club actually have that much money, or is it coming from the Penns?

God bless the Penns and all the passionate Manly people that contribute to our great club and keep it viable

The FC has zero funds and puts most of their membership fees back into collating their Annual Report and printing their membership cards @

The real questions are what entity will own the COE as the land itself belongs to the Northern Beaches Council.
How much rent will they be charging and who will be able to lease the facilities, and how often will it be increased ?:nerd:

Why Wombat, why????
Joking ....... I love the hill but I would love a fancy stand there and for there to be a boutique 20,000 to 25,000 stadium. We'd do so well if we got that, the Northern beaches community would get out and use it.

It's totally **** that we are the red headed stepchild of the the NRL and the political stadium wars. As we all know it's all politics and it's so, so, so ****ed how as a club we have been taken for granted by our so called politicians and left behind because of it. I have lived all my life on the Northern Beaches but have a shop out Parra way and I often drive by the new stadium they have, it's TOTALLY amazing and is such an advantage and one that we will struggle to compete with. I am very jealous.

What ****s me most about all this stadium discussion is that all the ****wits that bag us and Brookie forget that all their ****en fancy stadiums were paid for by tax payers.

Rant over.

Its like the NFL in the US where the Taxpayers cough up for the Stadiums that are then occupied by Teams owned by Billionaires.
Yet the USA supposedly abhors socialism :fubar:

I maintain that the simplest and cheapest way to improve Brookie is to extend the height of the Hill.
Those of you old enough will remember that the Hill was much higher, and even had a concrete walkway running east-west through it.
I understand that the Hill was reduced in height and the walkway demolished due to some structural concerns. That must have been in the late 1970s...
So, just bolster the foundations and give us greater height so we truly have a Hill, not a mound.
The Hill is the most iconic aspect of Brookie. Let's embrace it.
Who needs a plastic seat when you can have Brookie grass under your feet?
The hill was never lowered. Where did that urban myth come from? It probably appears diminished because the section with the tunnel through it was removed. The stands (particularly the Arko) may also make it seem smaller, as do the big light towers.

Think how diminished the AMP Building appeared after the AMP Centre went up behind it. Or look at North Sydney’s Northpoint, once dominant, now much less so, courtesy of its newer neighbours.

If anything, hundreds of thousands of people stomping over it might have seen it compress over the last fifty-odd years, but not enough to be discernible to the naked eye. We’re talking millimetres.

This will ending looking like that abomination Shark Park or whatever it's called nowadays, great grandstand behind the goalposts but SFA on either side of the ground.
At least they could make it look like a stadium and build where the hill is.
The hill has served it's purpose well, however as most games are played at night nowadays, it is now time to move into the 21st Century.
However if we have no other option, then beggars can't be choosers.

plenty of people prefer the hill so why not give all options.

An upgrade to that paths in/out (can't believe this wasn't one of the first steps) for safety and an upgrade to toilets it all it needs.

btw the new part of the Jane try is rarely more than 1/4 full so plenty of seating on the side (and not even looking into the sun)

Here we go again, I'm starting to think the 36 million refers to how many times this plan is rehashed and not the $$ value of the build.
They should find another million and replace the playing surface while they are at it.

Approved: Sea Eagles to get $36.1 million Brookvale Oval upgrade
Fresh details have emerged of the Manly Sea Eagles’ multimillion-dollar redevelopment of Brookvale Oval.

The club is preparing to submit a development application for the $36 million project which will include the building of a new grandstand and centre of excellence.

Prior to submitting the application the club must get approval of the landowner — Northern Beaches Council.

In a letter to the council, the club’s chief executive Lyall Gorman has outlined the plans.

He said the centre of excellence will feature an “elite level gym” along with medical and rehabilitation facilities.

There will also be an aquatic recovery facility, rehabilitation pools and altitude and heat training areas.

For pre-game meetings and post-game debriefs there will be a lecture theatre with meeting rooms and also player education facilities and study areas.

Mr Gorman said the centre of excellence would also help the club realise the ambition of having a women’s squad in the recently established WNRL competition.

He said there will be female friendly facilities including dedicated female change rooms, toilets and showers.

He also said there would be “consideration of privacy elements specific to female athletes” such as private access to rehab pools.

“The Sea Eagles are committed to developing a female team to participate in the recently established WNRL competition,” he said in the letter to council.

“In addition, the club is currently working with the Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby Football League to formalise a pathway for girls currently playing in junior competitions to progress to the elite ranks with their local elite rugby league club.

“In order to achieve these goals, the club understands the following actions need to be taken to foster the development of female rugby league on the northern beaches.”

Mr Gorman added that community education facilities would be central to the development.

He said to expect an amphitheatre with space for 80 people along with meeting rooms, education space and storage.

The new stand and centre of excellence will be at the northern end of the ground.
The grandstand, which will be fully covered, will have room for around 3,000 supporters

Mr Gorman states in the letter that the club is contributing a minimum of $600,000.

The bulk of the funding is coming from the State Government ($20 million) with the Federal Government contributing $12.5 million.

Northern Beaches Council is expected to approve of the plans at Tuesday’s meeting. The club will then proceed with a development application.

Each bay of seats is approx. 20 seats wide by 12 rows deep so the artist is showing about half the seating that will be there.

impression indeed

Ok so they are spending the money on an elite level gym (have one at Narrabeen), med and rehab facilities (Narrabeen I believe), aquatic recovery centre (if they mean "pool" there is one at Narrabeen), altitude training (at the leagues club).

I'd rather they do the stands, create the offices and leave the sport related stuff out if it's all at Narrabeen already.
Think of it as a Trojan horse to get a new grandstand. There is a pot of money that allows clubs to build CoEs, with a bonus of a grandstand (in this instance). There isn’t a state govt fund to simply build new grandstands.

Unless you follow a club in a marginal seat.....

absolutely

we need to have options everyone enjoys, seats on one side, hill on the other. Just improve the paths and amenities.

Only downside to adding to the hill is a good slide path for the kids down the back

Lol.
Great rant.
And I agree.
Trouble is my why question was in relation to stirring Bozo up again.
You knew what you were going to get...

The Council as owner of the land will also be owner of the COE, the thing is, The Sea Eagles say they're fine with what they have at Narrabeen and as they probably won't be able to train at Brookie, they'll have no use for the COE

I would say it's from The Sea Eagles [Penns] as the other two entities have probably no funds whatsoever

Well, hundreds like me endured the downpour on the Hill when we played Easts a few weeks back.
The match wasn't that memorable, but the weather was.
I wouldn't have missed getting drenched for the world!
Trouble is, that downpour occurred just as the game started, when most people already turned up, if it was raining like that two hours before the game, how many would have just stayed home?
