Anyone else think...

Why isn't that congenital and continuous pest Hastings on a slow boat to Botswana yet ... FFS I am sick of hearing about the serial ****-up ... get him gone, he is beginning to take on the aura of the living dead .....

Have a feeling he won’t be here by June 30.

Having only one kicker creates further problems in that Cherry cannot get involved as much as would like to on 4th or 5th tackles because he need to position for kicks or bombs. With a second kicker Cherry is free to challenge the line or set up a play and be on the ground on the 5th tackle play the ball because another player can be in position at the ready. It's so wrong.

The season is slipping away and its at round 9. Basically without a win the next two weeks the club can make mad Monday preparations well in advance, and we can start entertaining ourselves watching other teams who are actually competing for a top 8 position.

When will this club realise that sticking with failed plans from two years ago in favour of avoiding a capable player due his head issues is just ludicrous?. Hastings was in the halves for the Roosters team back in 2015 that kicked our butts at Brookvale by 30 points. There has to be a point where you just have to drop all the side crap and opinions and put a capable team out there that are expert in their positions. We have a better forward pack than last year that is being wasted.

Oh well guys, from my perspective it's reached the point where we just need to sit back and wait now until 2018 is mathematically over so we can stop caring and entertain ourselves in other ways. Maybe 3 or 4 more weeks and we can sit back. Barrett can talk his way out of a crime scene, and the club just buy it each time, and it will continue with every loss. In a nutshell we are powerless to stop this rot.

The dragons did it ok with Jamie Soward by just setting him back a bit further to give him more time. That’s what good coaches do, find a way to compensate for weaknesses in the roster.

Just looking at the stats from yesterdays game. Manly dominated all stats except for kicks and kick meters and to a lesser extent errors. Roosters kicked 517 metres to Manly's 309. Disappointing.

It's simple, kicking is a major problem for Manly and if they had had a second kicker yesterday (who could kick to get good field position) then they would have won the game.

If we dominated run metres (and field position) then chooks would be kicking from deeper in their own territory .. hence the need for a longer kick ..... longer kick metres is often a "bad" thing ...

Not talking about him Woodsie. He’s no champion but can kick and pass. Talking about a single kicker tactic and a top 30 that has a fullback and hooker who can’t kick and a five eight who he won’t pick.

Forgetting Hastings as he won’t play again, with all the other 28 available , we have one bloke who can kick at first grade level. ONE in our top 30 .That is simply ridiculous mate , even for old stagers like us.And that has nothing to do with injuries.

But then you would think that with all that Manly should have forced more line drop outs and scored more points.

This single kicker problem used to do my head in during the Michael Monaghan days!!
He was targeted heavily for being the only kicker in our team for 2 seasons. There was less protection on kickers back then and he would get bashed every time! I think Chris Bailey, Michael Witt and even Choc and Gifty had to fill the 6 jersey but teams salivated at the easy pickings on our 4th or 5th tackle. I can’t beleive some 1st grade coaches can still over look this targeted weak point in any team

Agree, only one attacking kicker in any game is less than ideal .... but I think it has all to do with who is available ... not any coaching instruction ..

When we had Green .. he kicked. When we had Croker he had a lic'n to kick ... just didn't get too many opportunities. Even Api at 5/8 kicked for a try assist.

Part, repeat just part of the 5th tackle option problem is DCE ... the deeper we got into a hole the more he felt he had to get the ball into his own hands and make something happen ... that is normally a good thing ... but 4 times in every set (I exaggerate) I think has stifled our overall "teamwork" in attack.

Close to the opponents line, players are becoming conditioned to waiting to see if DCE wants the ball rather than using their own initiative .....

I am 100% sure and certain that if Baz can get somebody else to kick effectively ... he will use them ....

Yep .... and that I think is the purpose of this thread .... out poor 5th tackle options and execution .... lack of an alternative kicker ...

......winning football games is hard with one kicker in the team.

Croker, Walker can’t/don’t kick
Api doesn’t kick
Tommy doesn’t kick
Hastings offended someone... and when he was picked he played 10 minutes and didn’t kick.

The answer is you dont. Most teams yearn for a left foot kicker amongst their options. We don’t have options.

If anyone can find another team with one kicker in general play I would like to be informed.Does the coach realise how easy it is to pressure single kickers?Does the coach realise how easy it is to defend attacking kicks from single kicker teams( not that there are any).Does the coach realise how bad our attacking kicking and competing is ?

A spine with one kicker. Nice. This is down to coaching. Nothing else. This is a joke!
Storm has 4. Warriors 3. Saints 3. Panthers 3 Go figure
The whole game is based on possession and field position ffs and we have one kicker. In fact excluding Hastings as he is done, with everyone fit, we have ONE bloke who can kick at first grade level in our Top 30

A spine with one kicker comes down to recruitment not coaching.

If you haven't learnt how to kick prior to playing first grade then you will not learn once there.

Why we haven't strengthened this area I do not know but this is more than just the coach add Bozo and Penn and probably a few others.

Get all that mate and agree re DCE.

My point is how do you construct a top 30 before a ball is kicked with ONE top line recognised full time kicker outside of the unspoken one. That’s the reason there is no one available, not injuries.

When your 1 and 9 can’t kick surely you compensate in the halves. Why wasn’t Fainu in front of Funa for example. At least if called on he has a kicking game. Most top teams have 3 good kickers in their run on side! Wallace , Cleary , Malone !

It’s simply horrible roster planning. I can guarantee no other top 30 looks like it.Its weird to be honest .Agree with Fluffy. More than Barrett at fault here but he was the one who went for Croker at 6 above Hastings when they were both picked. Hence one kicker in those games. And I’m sure Barrett picked Funa over Fainu. That is staggering given the top 30 makeup.

Well to be fair a kicking 5/8 wasn't on recruitment's radar until after pre-season training started ... and Green pulled a wobbly.

Up until then we looked like we had to many 5/8s with Green, Hastings, and young guns Croker, Metcalf, Wright and Cust on the way up.

Then it was panic stations and Pearce, Hodgo, and even pee pee boy were chased ....

This!

Back them people used to blame Monas for it and as soon as we got someone else to kick things improved immensely. By then Monas was hooking for us.

Not an excuse Woodsie.
March 30 was the date
They knew who was available. No Green , Metcalf Fainu Cust Lussick available. And Barrett picked T Wright in the top 30 as a centre. That he said on a few occasions .

But we went with Croker and picked FUNA and JONO WRIGHT over them. And also over Anderson who was a far better option as an outside back.
Barrett made the bed and we are lying in it.Jono Wright ffs. Those guys are young but Funa and J Wright offered nothing to help where we were deficient.

Anyway what’s done is done Rant over. I’ll be at Suncorp as usual with the bogans hoping like hell again🙂

Is anyone else concerned that this is the second time in three years with Barrett as coach that our season has basically been over before it even gets to halfway (i.e. Origin time).

And in both years (forget the injuries for a moment) the main issue has been either the lack of a 5/8 or the coaches refusal to play the best 5/8 we had/have available?

Killer should have been at pivot from the start of 2016. We all knew that and saw it after just one game. But it took almost 3 months for Barrett to do anything about it. And now in 2018 we all know that Hastings should be our 5/8, yet once again Barrett refuses.

I know there are other issues involved behind the scenes, but FMD this is a professional sports team, not some high school clique where one group doesn't like someone so they get ostracised.

V8 .... Four times Barrett has brought Hastings back into the squad and four times the place has blown up ...

It is time for people to stop blaming Barrett ... and start blaming Hastings for being an impossible little **** ... and for continually letting his coach and team down ... 4 ****ing times ...

**** the trouble making **** off to Azbekestan ......

The thing I don't get is why he's such a darling for the media and expert commentators. All this rubbish about how he needs to get out to save his coaching career. What is he? Mr 43%?
And get out of the bed he made?
And they keep calling him a rookie in season three. By that logic, I'm still a virgin!
Oops. Ranting. Sorry.
