It's more about how good DCE and Tom are than how good we are as a team.

Johns knows how special they both are and what we can achieve off the back of them.

Not happening this season though. Even with a ton of luck.

It's gotta be the old "us against the world" mentallity.
Friendly / positive opinions from ppl we know hate Manly (which is everyone except Manly supporters), creates cpmplacency at exactly the time we need to be absolute ruthless savages, if any chance of winning finals games.

Confidence is all about self belief and Compliments from others is self reassuring
Bring it on and I hope all the believers cheer us all the way to winning the grand final

Complacency does not set in Champion Teams like the storm and the panthers who are always favored to be up there every year and they live up to expectations
The fact is the most favored teams are mostly the ones that win the title

The Storm and Penrith are always hot favourites to be there and with Penrith winning 3 in a row have earned the tag....Manly have not looked a serious threat in years and only this season has Seibs got us knocking over all the genuine contenders which got Johns on this train.
If we were to hit a Golden era like the team of say 2007 - 2013, I like the favourites tag - well let's say it's deserved.
This season to Win would need to be a Rocky like tag, where the players have the belief and guts and the added fuel of the media and opposition fans saying we are "no chance" is the Perfect incentive....so from my perspective and knowing myself personally, when told "you can't Win", it sets off that extra fire inside and when i hear ppl saying "we don't mind Manly anymore" it's simply we are no threat to them anymore....call me sick Bozo but I love the hate and backs against the walls type efforts and after the infamous 40 - 0 GF thumping of Melbourne in 2008, the key Manly players proudly confessed there was extra fire in the belly from being rated longshots to get it done and that my feathered friend, says it all right there.....

If we had secured the 5 points we lost against Tigers, Warriors, and Raiders that would have had us in equal 2nd position and everybody would have been talking us up for the premiership.

Andrew John has got footy brains he can see what this team is capable of.

Add the loss to the Dolphins to that…..would have us alone in 2nd!

I'm more confident this year than I was in 2021 for exactly this reason. In 2021 Girdler had us pegged when he called us flat track bullies. We could rack up huge scores, largely thanks to the form Turbo was in, when the opposition was inferior. But when the opposition pack put us to the test we absolutely wilted and it nullified all the strike power.

This time our pack can actually go toe to toe with those top sides. We just need to actually do it.

Interesting. I agree that I’m more confident in this team but I don’t know that it’s because of the pack, who I still feel are dominated most weeks.

For me, it’s two fold. I think this current team has a better approach to combating the lack of punch from the middles. The outside backs carry better than the 2021 side and we tend to shift our way out of trouble. Something we did occasionally under Hasler but do religiously under Seibs. The other reason concerns the extra strike outside of just Turbo. If opposition sides shut Tom down, we had nothing. This team can score points whether Tom is there or not. Sure, he’s still crucial to a premiership chance but he’s not our only point of attack anymore.

For these reasons, I believe this current side is more balanced than the Turbo charged 2021 team.

We win Sunday the way the cards are falling (I think) is we play Cows at home then likely Roosters in syd at a neutral venue. Then it would be a prelim v Melb. I think also in Sydney. I mean getting to the prelim at least is very doable if we play to our potential.

If we play to our potential each week we’ll be there on 6 October, but as everyone’s aware, that’s a very big if. Need to play with some long needed consistency.

The prelim finals are hosted by the top 4 teams that win week 1. Sydney teams must play at Homebush or the SFS. If Melbourne win week 1 they host a prelim at the Korean housewife*, AAMI park.
