And people were so outraged that we let him go.

Whole hearted player but easily replaced
Yep, not a huge talent just a whole-hearted carpenter really. Yet in 2022 his commitment and effort was enough to hold down a second row spot all season, and in the process keep Schu on the bench. Fair enough too.

Good defender and he worked so hard to be a regular first grader.
Always spoke well of his time at Manly.
Wish him all the best back at the eels - hopefully he's regularly the best player in a losing team 😉

Honest journey man player - something that every club clearly needs as he is in demand

My guess is that Gus would have let him go to open up other cap space / he got a potentially better offer which they would not deny him.

I'm not sure what has happened at the dogs - but wouldn't be surprised if he gets a good run back at Parra.

Last time he was there they relegated Lane to the bench so Davey could start.

Seems like Willie Mason and Mark O'Meley are trying to revive the old dogs of war mentality that has been lacking since their playing days in the 2000s.
I think the whole point of implementing a harsh training regiment is to weed out the players who don't buy into the culture theyre trying to bring back.

Got a lot of respect for Davey . Always seemed to have a good work ethic and commitment level when he was at Manly .
Probably would have provided better value then Tuilagi with what he produced in the final washup but that is incidental now .
Would tend to have more sympathy for Davey 's position with that reported harsh or excessive harsh training incident . Have the impression also that Ciraldo has [ or did have ] an element of a smug mentality just what i noticed occasionally when the Panthers were dominant against Manly in particular .

Late bloomer and did well to finally establish himself , again thought that he did quite well overall in his Manly appearances , maybe he still has something to offer at a higher level . Good luck to him.

All I took away from the James graham article was the quote from morris that the winning culture left about 5 years ago… ide say it left when des was shown the door…
Fancy sacking a coach that took you to 4 finals in a row, including 2 grand finals… absolute joke of a club that deserves the results they are getting

Fancy pushing out a coach straight after a premiership win, his second in four years.

Then pushing him out again, 11 years later, in large part because he set the blame for the Pride jersey fiasco where it belonged, with management.

What club does that? Oh wait…😉

haha. Bit like what Penn did to tooves and then Des again.

Did we push him out the first time??
Pretty sure all the hate for des on here stemmed from the fact it came out that he was negotiating with the bulldogs long before we won the gf in 2011…

As for last year, I agree.. shouldn’t have sacked him… I don’t care who coaches this joint, Aslong as our backline is constantly disrupted week in/week out by a certain injury prone player, no one will be able to get this rabble into title contention

100 upticks for that, Terry! Dragged me out of my 12 month plus exile from this forum to agree with what you said. BTW the pictures you posted from the game the other night must have meant me and my wife were just about standing next to you!

Welcome back.

I finished up standing in line with the eastern side of the goalposts.

Yes he was.

He wanted to stay all along. However Elontt and presumably his dad ‘Silent P’ (David Williams says ‘Hi!’) Pensk, were not keen on his demands for more resources. He was angry from at least 2010 onwards. Grahame Lowe said so in his end of season report for 2010.

Hasler is no doubt a control freak who can be difficult in some ways, but I’m pretty sure most if not all successful coaches are.

There are two sides to every story. However I believe Manly could have won at least one more title with Des at the helm in that earlier period. Alas those other control freaks - the Penns - had different ideas.
