Aaron Schoupp

This bloke might just have to add to his utility value in the off season.

Where would ya make him train?
Agreed. Obviously with our shortage of edge forwards and our abundance of centres, Schoupp should be trained almost exclusively this pre-season as edge forward. Loves the tough stuff, would be very mobile in this position and already over 100kg. I see potential for he, Burbo and Talau to be our trio of versatile edge players, who, at a pinch, could slot into 2nd row or centre. If this was to eventuate, all we are missing is that one key signing in our forward pack proper

Definitely worth a shot there [ edge ] for Schoupp .
Blacktown"s form very ordinary of late [ maybe Schoupp has been injured recently ] but clearly has the playing attributes to develop into a capable edge player .
Still surprised that Hank Parker has not made more of an impression as an edge , .
Maybe his body has just been battered around too much for the worse or just the adjustment there is not coming as naturally as previously expected .
Can only have full praise for his time with Manly in ist grade previously , regularly wore his heart on his sleeve and so many courageous efforts over time .

The Parkers and Harpers style of players were Des Haslers experiment and both those players NRL journey have expired and are playing in NSW cup where they belong .
There is nothing surprising about where they currently are playing when you compare them with the superior NRL players .

I am Glad that Seibold was smart enough to move them on and move on to more dominating players
And Of course we appreciate all Manly Players for doing their best
But in order for Manly to be the Best we must always make sure we get the best players competing in the Legendary Manly Jersey

Remind me how many players in the modern game have managed to make the change from backs to forwards? I am talking the last 5 years in an effective manner

Dylan Walker, Euen Aitken Kurt capewell, the weak-gutted dog guy, ah Crusher Cleal, Big Artie, lol. OK point taken.

You've got me thinking. The weak-gutted dog guy? Monas bro may be, but was he always a winger?
No that Panther who Sticky abused because he was mean to someone when he was 12, now plays with Bulldogs (might not have started as a back but I thought he did)

Isaah Yeo a little over 5 years ago though, so too Jack Bird, following guys like Luke Lewis. More recently, up at Redcliffe, Connelly Lemeuela. Some of the most potent modern day backrowers were former backs Dylan Walker, Tyrone Peachey, Euan Aitken. Plus of course former backs who have transitioned to utilities and dummy halves Connor Watson, Lachlan Croker, Jaemon Salmon, Kurt Mann...

But more importantly, it is the evolving game itself that requires more mobility in the forwards, and even more athleticism in the outside backs. It only stands to reason that, more and more, it will be commonplace for 'worker' types out wide to be shifted in, current edge forwards to be shifted in to the middle, and the big boppers forced out a little.

I reckon Tom Talau if could handle the workload has great attributes to play on the edge, but has been out most consistent back in 2024 so maybe too left field, but would be an attacking handful and hits well in defence.

I agree totally but part of the issue is he slimmed down (11kg) in the off-season to make a genuine fist of the backs. Thus, I would imagine a pre-season would be required to handle the rigours of the edge. I'm sure he could handle it. I mentioned in another thread that he could make a fist of lock as well. He's a bit of a John Sutton type; tall, quick for a big man and skilful with the ball. That's always another option...it seems to be working for the Dogs.

To be fair Yeo was when he was pre first grade, apart from Luke Lewis not sure any of the others are that much (and you need to exclude no9's)

Chris Lawrence went ok shifting to backrow for the Tiges, but that was a while ago.
