9th immortal to be chosen in 2018

The best thing Lockyer ever did was fly low in a chopper from qld in 2011 in a vain bid to play in the semi v manly.

Also one pass to Brent Tate vs manly at brookie, I admire that pass which won the game. Although manly would have won if matai had realized he was over the line in the 79th minute.

I'm no Brisbane fan, but Lockyer is a great of the game I love. My guess is that it will be Meninga, which I also think is fair.
I agree he's a great player and achieved many accolades. But he doesn't strike me as an immortal..

He's been tarnished.

In news just in ....

Cam Smith and Jonathan Thurston have been named the next immortals.

Ch 9 will be running a special 48 hour telethon to raise money for the gold statues of these two great players. Without them Rugby League would have been lost in recent years.

Both players will also receive lucrative commentating contracts with Ch 9 for the rest of their lives along with 2 votes each on the panel for the next immortal (insert Billy Slater).

NONE of the names being bandied about come close to deserve being honoured as Immortals though many belong in a Hall of Fame.

Meninga is probably the closest to deserving Immortality.

Lockyer etc....

Would like it to be Provan before he passes, but I can see it being Meninga, not that Mal doesn't deserve it though. As a coach and a player he has just had success after success after success.

The only thing he didn't do as a player was lead Qld to an Origin series win. He lost all 3 series as captain from 1992-94.

And we all know that at some point (probably arranged to be the earliest possible time post their retirement) that Smith and Thurston are going to be picked.

Seriously, if they pick Lockyer over either Provan or Meninga then they're kidding themselves. Sure he was a great player in his day.....but no. Drop the idea of him being an Immortal like he dropped the ball when over the line in the 2008 RLWC Final.....

And IMO, Johns should never have been made an Immortal. He only got it because the Origin comeback win was fresh in the mostly Sydney based journo's minds and they thought the sun shone out of his backside. The fact that he ever got selected over Provan or Meninga at that time is what Gorilla Monsoon would have called a miscarriage of justice.

It's got to be the man, Anthony Mundine! In his own mind he is "the best athlete this country has ever produced". How could anyone else get it? 😉
He's an immortal in his own mind.
But he was a talented player. Watching him and Blacklock together was entertaining at times.

I still have this image of The Mouth getting clean bowled by a Tooves grubber kick for Craig Innes to score in the corner early in the 1996 GF 😉

He's a leg end, not a legend.

And even though it was the Drizzle who benefited.....watching him murder a try with selfish play in the 1999 GF was good to watch. Mary McGregor would have scored untouched if he had passed the ball. Great 5/8's like Bozo, Daley, Fitter, Lewis.....they would have passed it. But Mundine went for the glory himself and suffered a TKO. More so than Ainscough's high shot on Craig Smith (who would have scored anyway), that one moment saw to it that St Merge lost that game.

I remember watching that game close in nsw but close to the border....

Ok ok it was in the Condong *pauses for laughter* bowling club.

I was surprised at how many people were going for the broncos...as we were in nsw.

I retaliated by buying all St merge supporters the next round.

Arguments ensued.

edit: There used to be a sign on the highway: "Caution, Norm crosses here at night!" as Norm would get a skinful then walk home.

Sadly.....Norm is no more.

You are ****ing amazing V8 .... I can't even remember games I played in .... I know I wouldn't play footy trifia for money against you ...

Now the next question is “ who decides”??

Please don’t tell it’s a committee of Toggy Greenslime and Nick Politis!
