Justin Holbrook and Kristian Woolf both left for the NRL after continued success in SL. There's only so much you can do to prove yourself.

Why would he return to Manly?

He has already experienced the inner workings of the Sea Eagles. Let me just say it was not like the halcyon days of Arko, and people like Fulton (any other time pre-2015-16), Stanton or Willey.

Or even the 2004-11 false dawn, post-NE.

Whole different infrastructure to when he was here.

Now he may look for a more stable club or roster but I dont think the punch on in itself is a dealbreaker.

Nor do I - years ago under 100% different reseme has zero impact 8 years later.
An easy example is Hasler, who left on very bad terms 2011, yet was welcome back with high hopes and arms open in 2019.....what they will look at, is the potential to make Manly a better team, the other incident from near a decade ago is flushed now

You may be right. But I can’t imagine Penn and his silent partners will be prepared to pay what Peters could now command as an NRL coach.

As for Hasler, he is a special case. Nowhere else to go after his denouement at the Bulldogs. Plus even Penn realised that they had to change direction after the self-inflicted Barrett disaster.

I would argue that few people ever want to go back to a work environment where they had an ultimately miserable time.
