2026 recruitment & retention

Are you losing touch with Silvertails reality Mark 🙂

The first #Ennisdud thread will appear not halfway through his first year - but immediately upon announcement he is to take over!! (should that actually happen)

And the first #sackthecoach thread won't come out by mid the following year - more likely by his very first game in which Manly is trailing at halftime!!!
I was trying to be optimistic but you’re probably right

This is more than just results and pondering if the next coach will be better/ worse.
It goes beyond the technical aspect of coaching a squad week to week.

He needs to go not because of results ( which are not good also ) but because he has built a forward pack that is not just too old , but in no way reflects the way the modern game is played and the dynamic body types required. To miss that trend is negligence of the highest order.

He has done this at a time when two new teams are about to invade the player market and make attaining talent almost impossible without breaking the bank. And outside of 3 or 4 exceptions we need basically an entirely new forward roster.

Blind Freddy knew expansion was coming. It's total ****ing incompetence and will set the club back years. That's his crime , it's on him and no one else.

We are going around with the same pack of logs next year. No one of note is coming. Let that sink in as the Bears go on the prowl.

Just wait till he signs Klemmer.

How can everyone see our forwards are too slow for the game except for our management. Ridiculous

Has he build a cheap forward pack because 3 players are taking up the majority of the cap?

Cheap isn't the issue. You can buy value forwards who fit the modern prototype and at least be a chance.
Look at the dogs pack. Only one star in Kikau but the right " style" of player. Mann, Curran. Preston, Salmon, King ,Heywood. Mobile with skill. They are not expensive players.

We buy slow, immobile , old blokes. It's not rocket science. And that's the coach thinking this would work. Lunacy.

Crapola. Newcastle just signed Trey Mooney and they have two players taking up what our three do. Every team has three players taking up 2.5 to 3 million in cap space. Some have more. It's a tired old excuse that doesn't cut it anymore. Call it for what it is. We have recruited like amateurs.

Sounds like a club without any vision, any drive, any leadership, any hope of remaining in the NRL.

Especially with a resurgent North Sydney Bears cashed up and backed by the NRL soon to steal supporters, sponsorships, players, juniors.

History says one club will have success one will struggle to remain relevant.
Roosters losing their players last year is irrelevant when they still have a stacked roster. Go through there spine for next year plus there forwards and you wonder how the hell are they under the cap.
Robson, cherry, Tedesco, radley, crichton, leniu, Collins, whyte, Watson would all be on big coin. Butcher would be on decent coin. Wong and toa are gonna need to be upgraded soon. They’re all intentional/origin players.

storms spine is on nearly 4m with Stefano and Nelson both on 850/900 each. That’s without Coates and katoa on decent contracts

The fact that the only 2 players that aren’t flashy and consistently give 100% performances along with having extremely good defence in Garrick and Talau aren’t re-signed is a worry especially when we are signing cast offs from canterbury in their position. It is criminal that we aren’t signing them. Yet we offer guys like Saab long extensions. Don’t get me started on the forward pack. Sione Fainu should have been offered big money before he left for tigers, and we should have leaned on the guilt trip that we stood by his brother because nobody else did. Our recruitment is a joke.

I'm sick of hearing about Manly's "Big 3" taking up too much in our Cap. Virtually every club has 3-5 players on big money.
Next year no DCE = $1.2m
Turbo and Jurbo on reduced contracts = $400,000
If we can offload Brooks, even if we have to pay half to the naive club gullible enough to sign him, then it will only be the Fog @ $600,000 on big coin.
I can't see why Manly won't be in a position to buy some good NRL players, not just old stagers. Then again, the Cap is a mirage, and it's only small suburban battlers like Manly that don't have the hidden attractions to lure talent.

… didn’t you just contradict yourself there?

Just sayin’

I kept saying we could have kept Weekes and spent that money used for Brooks for a decent forward.
