A pokie palace like the C-B Leagues’ Club at Belmore, has had to pay taxes (or more taxes) on poker machine revenue, around the turn of the century. Around the same time, pubs were allowed to introduce pokies into their entertainment mix.
So along come those white knights in the shape of Mr Laundy Sr and Jr, to help out the Bulldogs. A family who have made their fortune in pubs.
Pubs that are worth mind boggling sums of money these days. In part off the back of poker machine revenue.
It is somewhat ironic.
