It’s a question worth asking but I think it can be both. He’s obviously got himself a strong roster via the pathways that Gus set up but to win four on the trot and lose so much talent (via the cap) in that time, speaks to an outstanding coaching performance.is that because he’s the greatest coach or more the enormous quality of players in their juniors / reserves.

If he was not an elite coach, you can bet the team’s resolve and motivation would have wavered at some point in the last 4-5 years. If it was about brilliant individuals, you can bet the loss of so many big names would have brought them back to the pack. It seems their entire approach to the game is bulletproof regardless. I think he’s struck a style and built a system that just works.
Most of their wins seem very ‘team’ driven, with everyone playing a role.
