What makes you think Manly is capable of doing that if the Roosters can’t,according to you?
 
Okay, I've decided what's happening for 2024/2025 recruitment. Here goes (and please hear me out):

1. Coaching. Brad Arthur is to be instated as Siebold's assistant. Ennis let go because we need someone full time. Also helps with succession planning.

2. Our biggest acquisition (and boy, don't we need some indigenous talent) is we acquire Selwyn Cobbo. Turbo is getting moved to the centres, to prolong his career. Given this, it is my view Hopoate / Talau are adequate 1-5 depth. This means Schoupp, Paulo, Vaega, Parker are free to look elsewhere.

3. DCE retires (or gets the bag in the U.K.). We have his replacement (and I've considered depth below). Jamie Humphreys is to step up, therefore, he's playing during Origin, and he's taking GCKT's utility spot the rest of this season. Jake is made captain.

4. With Barrett already playing buggars with Lane (one game in), and their known "issues", we have Arthur convince Lane to return to the Eagles.

5. We do NOT re-sign Lodge, Brown (we can't keep paying them to rehab), Woods, Condon, Waddell, Matterson &/or Croker (who medically retires - and we search for a Hooker). Lawton is already gone.

6. I re-acquire both Latu and Samuela (particularly because Marshall is shopping Latu around). This moves Burbo back to the bench, where I feel he belongs on a premiership team.

7. Jake Arthur becomes our long term utility. I'd also like to see GCKT develop some more in NSW Cup. I just believe due to his stature, he's not going to be in high demand.

There's a lot going on in this post (unlike at our club) so I'm all for your proposals. My Bronco mate reckons Cobbo is signed until the end of 2025, but hey, as we know that means sfa.

This is good, its pretty good.

Depending on next seasons upgrades for existing players and staggered yearly earnings. But apart from what we dont know, i reckon its a similar value pool of players ,

Look a bit thin in the middle overall .

2 words. Jack De Belin. Maybe that's 3 ?
 
Arthur coming is as an assistant is not only sensible but plausible and may open a few doors re player movements. However you are asking a lot of players to give up contracts - hard to see. Not sure if Cobbo wants to leave Brisbane either. He looks happy. DCE retiring. I would be stunned if this happens just quietly. But some good changes overall (and we may not need Cobbo. Lehi will be a year older and bigger - looks a star in his own right).
 
Hard to see Cobbo leaving a grand final side to move away from his home state, to come and play for our side that has missed 3 of the last 4 finals. Would take big $$$ to make happen which we don't have and even if we did, with the current form of Talau and emergence of Hopoate I think we are pretty set in the backline anyway

Yeah, for that matter, any Bronco player. It's to much of a cultural shift for them.

Great thoughtful post, although I don't agree with your specific suggestions (!)

Brad Arthur - yeah nah, I agree with bolstering the coaching staff but not sure Brad is what Manly needs just now. If we implode (which I know many here have been predicting!) then he could be an option for new head coach but we are far from imploding imho in fact I think we're taking good steps forward.

Bring back the Fainus? No, don't go back, even though they're talented.

Lane? No, ditto, and he just doesn't add enough of what we need. We need a quality forward, but a tough, hard worker with some attitude, ideally. Angus Crichton would be great but it doesn't need to be an established star, someone in the style of a Marata Niukore-type would be perfect.

Cobbo? Great player but marquee money which we need to bolster the forwards. We have ample quality fullback options.

I'd offer to re-sign Lodge & Brown but only 1-2 year deals because if we don't we'll probably have to spend even more to replace them with players of similar quality.

I've no idea how good Humphreys is. Would be interesting to see him get a run this year, but he's behind Arthur, supposedly. So at least one more season from DCE please.
