I was at the sports ground game. I always thought it was shearer who got coathangered by gilmeister, but it was Des! Bad memory. Exciting game though.

I was always a little disappointed in M Cox, but little did we know at the time what Cliffs was to become.

Thought Richie Poulsen was good for us, wonder what happened with him.

Would be interesting to know what happened to Poulsen. That he was on a Big League front cover shows how well he was going. He wasn't in first grade at all in 1987 (was he even at the club?) and in 1988 he played one game from the bench. In 1989 he was at the Gold Coast. When he first came to Manly in 1985 he was tipped by Bozo to play for Australia.

Round 10 v NS
Got away with this it seems. Hit the lead with 15 to go.
This win has MW sitting on Equal 1st, a loss to 2nd's leaving them on #2 spot and a loss to the U23's drops them to 8th. Flegg also won and Ball had another convincing victory 28-0

Round 11 v CB at Belmore after a big representation the day prior for City v Country. Great game, recall sitting on the hill with the new neighbours, they were all going for Canterbury as we lived next door to Peter Mortimer.

2nds had a draw running 2nd
U23 had a win running 6th
Preso's finished E6th with 2 wins for the season
Flegg 4th with 2 wins & a draw

think that he [ Richie Poulsen ] had a serious back injury or problems after or during 86 or so and this no doubt restricted his fitness level and availability . Recall at the start of 87 Fatty Vautin had to play as a prop until Ward started playing so was a bit of a dearth of front rowers at Many at that stage Mark Brokenshire was just signed but must have been considered not quite ready . Richie Poulsen was initially regarded as a real tough defender , more so then his attack , good solid player and that may have been just about it .

5 matches in 15 days for Cleal who was also up pre dawn being a garbo.

wow

At the risk of sounding super old... players today seem a little paper thin with their contract demands and lifestyles compared to this!

Round 15 v BYE
no articles.
Interesting that with the bye, the Under 23's are now equal 4th with 3 other teams and there are 3 teams behind them, one point behind.

Round 16 v St George
Big win to the Eagles
1sts are 1st
2nds are 2nd even though they lost.
U23's with a win are now clear 4th. 2 wins + the bye has projected this side into the top 5. Ian Gately the goalkicker!

@Brissie Kid, do you have or can you find any footage of the MW v STG game? This wasn't the TV game that weekend and I only have Sporstworld episodes up to the week before!
