The white collar jersey looks good

I like it too. There's something odd going on there though. The 1985 & 1986 maroon jersey didn't have a white collar. In 1984 Manly had a white jersey, but in a few games used this maroon jersey with the white collar. RLW seem to be using photos from 1984 and also Manly seem to have used an old set of 1984 jerseys in the first trial game of 1986 (see the start of this thread). Its hard to believe they would still have a set of jerseys, but the 1986 trial game jerseys must be from 1984 as they have the 'NSW RFL' badge and not the 'NSW RL' badge.

The few games in 1984 where Manly had a maroon jersey were like 2020, where it is with maroon shorts.

Also looks like the same jerseys white collars got used again in 1987 trial game.

That fulltime rule was a real clanger. Full of holes. I think it was introduced as a result of the late 1970s where everyone ran on the field as soon as the siren sounded. Post siren conversions were allowed, so the game wasn't actually over when the siren went. What was the referee meant to rule when a field goal attempt was made a split second before the siren and then sails through the posts when the siren is blaring?

Round 21 v Penrith
1sts had a draw no running 2nd, are the wheels falling off?
losses to both lower grades, 2nd's are 2nd and U23's now 8th, 3 pts off 5th
MIchael O'Connor courted by teams, wouldn't he look in a Manly jersey, doesn't look like we have a look in, it's Parramatta or Canberra. I am sure he wants a move because he wants to win a premiership, no chance winning one with those two teams Michael.

Another loss. Is this a slippery dip we are on? Now running 4th on F/A
2nd's lost running 3rd, no Paul Shaw
Y23's, seem to be having a crack. A win now running 5th on F/A. This side has Hosking, Rodgers and Gately in the team.

This comp seems to be very even in the top 5 or 6 clubs. Same with the 1978 season posted by eagle66. All done without a salary cap and draft. In 2020 there were just 2 teams in the fight.

I think the 5m rule was actually leveling the teams and the playing contest. If only the NRL in 2021 were looking at the playing rules as a way to level out the contests, instead of finding ways to "speed up the game" and other nonsense that just makes the comp/teams even less competitive.

Round 25 v SS
Another loss, things are looking shaky apart from our position on the table.
1st's running 3rd on F/A
win to the 2nd's running 2nd on F/A
loss to the U23's leaving them in 6th, 1 point off 5th
Next week v Parramatta, a win in all 3 grades will give Manly the Club Championship.
Hearing rumours of O'Connor chased by Manly.
Another guy who would look good in a Manly jersey is a kid in U23's for Souths, Ian Roberts. Remember that name!

I think Souths were up to some shenanigans there with Ian Roberts. He had been in the Souths 1st grade front row all season. By playing the last month or so in the Under 23s (and be on the bench for first grade later that day) players could qualify for the U23s for the finals. Roberts was back in first grade for the semis. Despite Manly's poor form at the back of the season, expecting a very big home crowd vs Eels.

Round 26 v Parramatta,
Losses in all grades.
Bye bye U'23's
If there isEPSON006.JPGEPSON011.JPGEPSON015.JPGEPSON025.JPGEPSON028.JPGEPSON031.JPGEPSON033.JPGEPSON034.JPG any upside, we will have to play the winner of the play-off for 5th. Oh well, a win is a win. Hope the Bears beat the Tigers!
John Harvey doing well in the country and what a tackle!
Boustead dropped, must have been pretty bad for a winger to be dropped. Anyway, always happened to Stuart Davis

Preliminary Minor Semi Final v Balmain

Balmain beat Norths mid week for their right to play in this semi.
What happened to Manly's season, bundled out in the first week. Come on Arko let's buy a couple of top line backs. Where there's smoke......Doug Daley not confirming anything but the money is on O'Connor and Darrel Williams are coming!
2nd's lost and now play in the Minor semi next week against Norths
Good article of Stuart Davis and the Blake brothers are courted.EPSON046.JPGEPSON048.JPGEPSON049.JPGEPSON058.JPGEPSON071.JPGEPSON078.JPGEPSON080.JPG
