1985 Manly Season

Recall Manly [ and listening on the wireless ] playing the Panthers on a Tuesday night play off for 5 th i think that year with Manly falling short . Not sure if Eagle 66 has included it but also recall Manly playing the Dragons in an Anzac day [ maybe mid week] club game with Manly getting off to a good start but being eventually run down in an entertaining game . still had a good side that year .

Spoiler alert, haven't got to the semis yet. Trying to build up a bit of interest.

I made the last minute decision to go to the play-off for 5th in 1985. Still shaking my head but I look back and I wonder if we could have progressed any further.

1st grade equal 5th
2nd grade last
3rd grade 5th

Round 25 v SS
Huuuuge lossto the Rabbits. Fortunately, Penrith lost leaving both teams locked equal on 5thjust 2 points ahead of ES who are playing Penrith next week. Isn't this getting exciting!
2nd grade beat 11th placed SS to move into 11th spot and maybe avoiding the wooden spoon.
3rd Grade clear 5th and equal with 4th Parramatta.

Round 26 v CS
Penrith thrashed ES so it was up to MW to beat CS stay in the semis race. Some of the stars stood up to push us into to play off for 5th. Finished 6th on for and against
2nd Grade beat the Steve Rogers led CS team to force them into a play off situation and our 2nd's ran equal 10th,11th on for and against missing the wooden spoon
3rd Grade beat the 2nd place CS team to be equal 3rd, 5th on for and against.

Fatty's was Manly's last ever field goal at the SCG. What a trivia question. No one would have picked that!

In 2006 he lost the title to Matt Orford who kicked the winner in Manly's 23-22 win over the Eels.

1985 was the only year in his first grade career that Fatty wore shoulder pads. And it was only because of the injury.
