1947 Sea Eagle passes away...

THE Northern Rivers has lost a beloved rugby league stalwart in former Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles great, Harry Grew.

Grew, 90, died peacefully at Caroona Nursing Home, Goonellabah, on Tuesday night.

The former prop had a successful rugby league career in Sydney and played for Manly-Warringah in its first season, 1947.

This has stirred some emotions.

Harry was the pool attendant at the Lismore Memorial Baths. He worked there with another local prop-forward, and if you played up you were quickly gone.

I remember spending many hot Lismore days there, dipping our redskin lollies in the pool to give them more flavor.

Harry worked the shop a lot and seemed to be a very quiet man.
If I had known he was a Manly player, I would have never left him alone.
