$1.5Mil Cap Rort for Smith & Thurston in 2018

James Graham could have been playing in a testamonial? Now i've heard it all, that's the example they use
But this is exactly the point, that the NRL's subjective rulings are unsportsman like and an obvious bias to the chosen few 😡

In a year when two Manly players with chronic injuries could not be removed from our Cap, the NRL has shamelessly gifted a salary cheating player an etra payment :banghead:

Just incredible governance- not :exclamation:

Did anyone expect anything different from this now irrelevant NRL board, now so totally out of touch with their fans it's no longer funny?

The sooner the NRL switch to a virtual salary cap the better.

Clubs vote on how much a player is worth and thats their value under the salary cap. Then pay them what you want, but at least it'll be fair on field.

It would stop a lot of this contempt for the game the NRL currently have in regards to 'level playing field'.

Its unbelievable. Greenberg's comments in that article almost read like satire & sarcasm on the subject of bias. It looks like someone wanted to illustrate the horrendous bias and unfairness that exists in NRL, and has put his comments together. But they are real and straight from his mouth! Is this the Betoota Advocate?? Sack him now

Who decides what players get this ......Bonus !!
This is a distinct advantage to individuals and their team...it's basically a salary cap rort without hiding the 2nd book.
Still waiting for the NRL to start laughing and shout "got ya"

There's no end to the depths of corruption that this fukwit will plummet to. How obvious was it last night that the refs were trying to engineer a result. 9-2 pemalties trying to keep the Cows alive. I fear I already know the quality of refereeing we'll see tomorrow night. I don't think since the 2013 GF I haven't wanted us to win a game more than this one to shove it right up that slimebags arse.

I would suggest the 'owners' of the entertainment decide this. It appears to me no different in essence to the retired politician receiving $250000 for giving a speech to a bunch of banksters.

I think the idea is a good one, I certainly would go to one for a Manly player. Maybe we just weren't smart enough to think outside the square!

Stay tuned for news that Smith and Thurston have been parachuted into safe seats by one of the major parties for the next election.

Gravy anyone ?

Although come to think of it, they'll probably make more when they get signed up by FUX Sports.

It would be fine if all clubs were allowed to do it and the rules for it were tightened up around the salary cap, but its all very grey. And the subjectiveness and bias of Greenwanker make it unfair and unacceptable. Look -

''The code’s rules allow for testimonial matches but they are rarely approved by the NRL. Given the status of these two players the NRL felt it was appropriate.
NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said Smith and Thurston deserved the chance to play in a testimonial match. “We do not approve these matches lightly but there is no doubt these are two of the best players to play the game,” he said.

The part that really gets me here is the media classing them as earning the right to this major payday due to their status and how well they have played - The Elite few who get the extra kick - well I get that.
Here's the thing - these type of players due to their exceptional ability, will have endorsements and red carpet treatment in the future from being those standout players...that's a pretty good reward that will be a permanent and far superior income to the average NRL player in my eyes.
What about a bloke like Matai who played busted every week and knocked off the biggest players in the opposition every week with his heart and soul into every tackle and every run....in his own way is exactly the player that Rugby league is built on - should he have got his payday in the eyes of the NRL ??

I have never heard of a Testimonial match t honour an active player in my 41 years of attending footy 😎

Beaver's farewell could not even be played on a Sunday - not worthy @

Hindy's farewell could not even be played at Parra - not worthy 😡

Manly should lodge a request for a Testimonial game on Saturday.
Matai and Snake have 10 years+ service, a couple of Premierships and bodies damaged beyond repair :wait:

These are the NRLs priorities - granting testimonials for multi millionaire players from favored clubs, who are already guaranteed to have lucrative post playing careers. I thought testimonials are usually to help out someone who is in need - like say Alex McKinnon. Meanwhile, grass roots league is dying a not so slow death, and the unashamed bias at NRL level continues unabated.
Alex was not 'honoured', it was an attempt by the NRL to cover up their lack of permanent injury insurance and to stop Alex sueing them for negligence 😎
