We are embarrassing - winning the comps is years away.

So how could he have "managed" Jake not to throw the inside ball to Canberra, Lodge not to drop the ball from the kickoff, Waddell to not get in the way of a dummy half pass or Garrick to miss two sitters?

Yes, he could have been better but to blame DCE for the loss is not really on imo.
Omg....
Clearly u dont understand the point.
Both teams make errors, only one team wins. Clearly dce isn't responsible for others individual errors, (although the waddell drop was his fault) but he is responsible for our approach, sets, game management, and playing to the conditions. He is halfback and captain of Manly. If he hasn't learnt in 300 plus games when or how to do so like last night then seriously... Canberra were gifted that win, because of our touch footy mindset with the ball in hand.

I can't shake letting a lead like that at home go in the dustbin.
Its unforgivable no matter the excuses or circumstances.
In 2013 Manly were in the grand final and were robbed of being premiers.
In Rd 1 in 2014 at home Manly led Storm 20-0.
Never had Manly ever butchered a 20 point at Brookie.
Ever.
Well of course Storm won 23-22 and Manly have never been the same since.
Never looked like being in a grand final again.
In 2016 at Brookie led Penrith 24-4. Blew it. Gave up the lead again to lose.
Never looked like being in a grand final again.
Last night did it again. At Brookie.
Just got no heart.
Never look like being in a grand final again.

Yep this is what we have consistently been delivered for a decade now. Mostly rocks with a few diamond performances. A decade of absolute failure. We've seen 2 minor semi final wins in 10 years. We've made finals in only 4 seasons and lost 6 finals games. It's the worst period in the clubs history and judging by last night and the Dragons game it's not going to change. We may scrape into the 8 but it'll be another wasted exercise.

I just want to say to you all that I am so proud of all of you that have High Manly Standards

That was one of the worst defeats I have seen at home ever

You don't lose being up 20-0 with a 8-2 penalty count in your favour against a team with 5 first graders out.

Um, yeah okay!
I do understand the point, you're blaming DCE for the loss by virtue of poor game management despite agreeing that he's not responsible for the errors of others that directly led to 18 points, plus two more if you count one of Garrick's missed goals.

Yep, in over 300 games he should know better, how can he control the actions of others?

Um no you don't. Completely over your head. Forget about it

All teams make errors, every single game. The errors did not cause the 18 points. They put us in vulnerable positions. Good teams rally around each other when an error is made, and use it as fuel to motivate their response. We are very poor at that particular aspect. No, can't blame that solely on DCE, but he and the coach are certainly important figures in delivering and gaining buy in on the message. That issue aside, yes his game management/awareness is deplorable, and that was far more costly than individual errors. He struggles to think for the team. As has been pointed out, he performs at Origin level because he doesn't have the pressure to lead by himself. He can focus on playing what's in front of him. There is NOBODY in this team THINKING FOR THE TEAM.

I saw the last part of that 2014 loss to Melbourne. Nightly Two-Dads took the glory option right at the end and came up flat, rather than pass to players in a better position. Not much has changed with ‘Giraffe Chin’. No wonder he wasn’t so popular.

I agree with someone else who mentioned he could be a good assistant or specialist coach. I do not think he has the makings of a head coach and I hope he never lands in that role at Manly.

But if he was an assistant of a specialist kind, he’d be in the players ear telling them to do what they shouldn’t for the team.

It's a mental thing. We have the physical ability but we get to a decent lead and completely change how we play. We go from fast and fluid to nervous and clunky.
That’s when our senior players are meant to step up we have enough of them…Tom Dce Jake Brooks Crapper Lodge Sipley Brown

Manly aside, the whole 'winning the comp is years away' narrative for any club I'm not necessarily on board with.

Things can swing relatively quickly at times.

Broncos went from the spoon to a GF in a couple of seasons.

Souths went from prem favourites after magic round to spoon favourites building in to this magic round.

I do recall in the Manly Way DCE being all captain like in a huddle empahasising to his younger colleagues that they need to earn the right first

Is he really the man people would listen too considering his penchant for going off early .……again and again

when manly get in a circle who tells team mates they have to play steady and form a platform. does all his team respect come from being a good trainer and a top bloke. The lack of on field leadership shown by the man with the ball mostly can be demoralising for a team that struggles to overcome basic stuff, let alone the howler

Okay, and look at their pathways, memberships, business models, recruitment, ability to adapt with modern football. We are stuck in perpetual 2011-2012 structures & standards (great back then, out of date now).

5th (this season)
12th - coaching change
11th
4th (finals)
13th
6th (finals)
15th - coaching change
6th (finals)
13th
9th - coaching change

played in 3 finals in 10 years (including this one), pumped in all of them. On average that's 9th-10th over a decade. That is absolute rubbish and mediocrity in its fullest. A DECADE Disco.
