Anyone who compares Whatmough with blokes like Bozo, Wombat, Krillich, Igor and the great Beaver are seriously kidding themselves. He has been great for Manly-no doubt, but seriously, he is not fit to lace some of our past legends bootlaces. Why??? because none of those blokes ever carried on like this sook. I couldn't give a ratsarse what he has done for the club-like Des he will be remembered for this rubbish. It will be his legacy I am afraid. Good luck Choc-take the dosh champ

Okay I will bite. Lets look at the facts

1. He has come out and said that he has not signed with anyone. You might choose not to believe this but i think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.
2. How can you doubt his commitment when he is playing with a season ending injury? And has been for a number of weeks? That is about as tough as it gets
3. During the dark post des days who was it who came out in support of tooves? Who, arguably, held the team together in those times?

But yes rubbish him based on articles and news stories that do not have any quotes directly from him.

What some people fail to understand that online there is always a record of what you say...and it is very easy to appear very foolish, especially when you bag a player before there are any real reasons

Good post.
I think if Choc was still of two minds (stay or leave), he only has to watch a few matches of Rowdy when he played at Brookie between 1990 to 91.
I can tell you that the Brookie crowd will let him know what they think if he was to come back in different colours. Persona non grata.

For now, I will still cheer for Choc and believe in him until I see different.

I was at Shearers first trip back to Brookie and wholly crap did he cop it. Went on to play the worst game of his career. Choc's great games will never be forgotten, but none of this sits well with the Manly faithful. We don't forget!

Ah the early 90's.... The chants we gave Rowdy at Brookie where rememberable but would be frowned upon nowadays no doubt.

Brad Arthur must really make big impressions.

Seriously he was here for 5 minutes and is everyone best friend.

Hi Bob,
I was at the Grand Final after party at Harboard Diggers last year. Honestly Brad Arthur was sitting in the balcony section with his Mrs, not really talking with anyone but her and just staring into space like he had no mates. He was a nice bloke when I said hello but other than that, I think he only spoke to one of the trainers brothers. If he had that much of an impact on Choc and the playing group, you would have thought he would be having a few quiet ones with the boys. He was really the only one not socialising.

RE: Claims that Watmough agrees to 3yr Parra deal

Interesting indeed.

Maybe he was feeling a little depressed because his coaching ability was steering him to the Eels.

I personally think watmough has signed ( wirhout any facts ) and I do know that life goes on.
This is totally weird. I think he has not signed. But how can we arrive at opposite conclusions based on exactly the same evidence?? (that is, we both have no facts)
We must have stumbled into some kind of logical time-warp place thingy.

Maybe he hasnt signed !!! and if he hasnt im really looking forward to his weekly interviews next year in the media giving everybody the impression that the Manly club has issues....

Well Done Choc....

yes they may have took pay cuts over the years but that was a decision they made at the time... Why is it the clubs or coaches fault at present ???

he has provided negativity to the club recently , and that would never be forgotton.

I dont ever remember Menzies ( legend )- ... , whine & complain and allowed to be interviewed on more than one occasion by a total TOOL on tv discussing family business...
" little boy throwing a tantrum ". Even if channel nine approached him for interviews to try to make matters worst for the club what happened to declining ??? Choc has threw fuel in the fire and knew exactly thats what would happen. hence us fans discussing the situation weeks on end !!!

He had no right to discuss the clubs present position on negotiating contracts with himself or even still other players..

No dignity , just a spoil t little boy !! that has caused damage , and lets not forget the timing.

I have not once bad mouthed his actions on the field , its his actions off the field which were just plain wrong.

Absolutely. Incredibly disappointing behaviour on his part. The team was going great and DCE was setting the world on fire until Choc started mouthing off in SOO camp that he wasn't happy about the Glenn Stewart contract situation. All the alleged quotes he wanted to join Brad Arthur at Parra, that DCE wouldn't take a pay cut Blah Blah blah. Did I personally hear him say these things in SOO camp, no. But just so much smoke not to be fire. We only have to hope that now all this is out he will pull his head in. Respect Tooves , his teammates and the fans and help us to get to another GF/premiership. I am sure he won't want to be remembered as the villain who derailed the 2014 premiership campaign .

A question for all of those no smoke without fire people

Did the Brett S case not teach you anything? Seemed to me that there was a heap of smoke and very little fire.

I can't believe there has been over 17,000 view of this thread @Dan must be loving those figures!!

Fair dinkum can we just move on, there's a Finals series to win (or lose) that's far more important than what one player might or might not deci8de to do 12 months from now.

Mega thread-Yeah! So strange how some of you lot get bent out of shape when someone has a different view to yours. Common denominator is the special affinity we all have with this team and more importantly the club and it's great history. Life will go on regardless who wears 1-17...that's what makes it all so exciting. I tip us by 8 on Friday :) I think you may see a complete turnaround!!!

Ok boys here goes!

For the record I believe Choc when he says he hasn't signed with Parra. Player managers need to do this crap to get the player's current club to stump up cash for the last contract. Unfortunately Choc's last contract will be a year after DCE and Foran sign big payday contract's. Choc and Matai's managers have had to create this massive game of media he said she said, so that they can let the club know that its all well and good to throw everything at DCE and Foran but you better realise that after you have signed them up you need to have money left for Choc and Matai because they won't come cheap in the final years. Choc and Matai's negotiations are happening a year early because the club is currently working on the package for DCE and then Foran a year later. Its happening also because at the moment Choc and Matai are playing well and they are fit. So they are trying to get a deal done whilst they are still in good shape and playing rep footy etc. Because at their age they could quickly lose value if injuries become a problem (Just ask Campo). If they just came out and said I don't want to leave and I will be buried at brookie, the club wouldn't pull out any stops to resign them and would bump up the offers for DCE and Foran. So you get what you have going on at the moment.

I believe that Choc, Matai and their managers were spooked by Manly being happy to allow Glenn Stewart to leave, not because the players cant live without Glenn Stewart. This caused the managers to panic and get started on negotiations early. If Choc had been the one whose contract was up instead of Glenn I reckon it would be Choc who they would have let go, it was just unlucky for Glenn that his contract was up first. I don't think Brett Stewart is involved in any of this other than supporting a mate looking for a pay rise, I think Brett is happy, but it just made a great story in the papers that it was all about the brotherhood and this pact of taking less money to stay together blah blah. This whole saga is about nothing more than posturing and negotiating contracts. Poor old Choc is struggling with the his managers media spin process due to that fact that he does love the club and he is also mates with DCE and all this crap makes him look bad. But the unfortunate reality is he also worried about just how much time he has left to make hay whilst the sun is shining. Lets not forget Choc was a window cleaner when he started playing footy so he won't be sitting on the NRMA board of directors like Toovey did when he retired. Choc and Matai are trying tie up the contracts now so they can go gently into retirement in a few years.
Reality of this is that they dont hate the club, they dont hate DCE and they are not crying themselves to sleep at the thought of Glenn Stewart not being there to hang out next year. This is all purely and simply about money and their future. They are not totally driven by money and I would assume they don't want to leave but this crap is a necessary evil if you want to make sure that you get your fair share when the time comes.

I also think the Weedler interviews are an attempt by Watmough to set up some kind of media profile in the hope of picking up some kind of work in that field or a field that requires you to be a known personality when he retires eventually.
I can imagine that somebody has told him why don't you get into media and Choc's asked his manager to help him work on that, so the Manager that is also leaking stories, goes to Weedler and conjures up this exclusive stories crap on Ch9 news every two weeks. Choc manager tells him Weedler will help and sets up the meeting with Weedler and Choc. Choc befriends Weedler (Hence the reason Chocs Mrs was making cupcakes for Weedler a couple of months ago before all this crap blew up. Check her Twitter posts its a fact) believing that he has connections at Ch9 etc. However Weedler knows that he will get great mileage out of Choc managers media campaign and perpetuates the garbage. He discreetly organises his SMH colleague Adrian Prozneko to write a story that Choc has signed a 3yr deal with Parra so that Weedler and Choc can get together for an exclusive so that Choc can retort. Manager gets desired result

*Club is panicked and agrees to allow Choc to test market.
*Fans are in turmoil putting pressure on club.
*All crap released just before finals for maximum pressure and media exposure because off season wont get the same coverage or impact.
*Choc doesnt really know whats going on completely but is letting his manager handle it. But isnt used to people being annoyed with him around Manly so comes across weird on telly.

Im telling ya guys its all smoke and mirrors.

Choc will stay if Manly can stump up reasonable cash after negotiating DCE and Foran. Choc will probably only go if there is a huge offer on the table to leave. And who could blame him.

He doesn't want this and neither does the club but when your livelihood is about to end in a few years, you tend to do things that are a bit out of character.

I haven't ever bought into the story but reckon the long winded post above is probably pretty close to being on the money.

I reckon the player managers are behind all this, the leaks , the BS everything!!

This thread needs a new title if it is to truly rival "The Kieren Forum".

How about

"What-mough fos want to steal our Choc?"

Yes @conanu, and the player managers are probably some of the posters on this forum. Stirring up shyte. if it helped to serve their purpose, they would do it. They would say to the it assistant, "get on Silvertails, and post blah blah blah". Assistant: I will after lunch. Player Manager: "I said do it NOW".

yeah it was long winded, but i had a moment of clarity and had to tell the world Lol

Whilst I don't have any inside knowledge of what's going on, if I was a betting man I would be betting that your take on things is pretty close to the facts.

I certainly believe your story over the media's.

You just have to think back to the dark days of post 2011 GF, and the BS about almost the whole team leaving , and who did we lose??

T-Dog ( and Hoppa Jnr to God)

Which turned out to be nothing like what was being bandied around at the time .

Media are complete arseholes , they print anything they like as long as they use the word " alledged "
