Even after tonight he deserves another 2 years. Give him the opportunity to do a mini re build with hopefully a full two years with Tom playing every game.

Des has lost his fire, he is good for first and second season then things fall apart. Look at his tenure at the dogs. 2 yrs then terrible.
Our attack looks the same as the dogs 4 years ago, predictable, no communication, waiting for individual efforts, hooker with no attack.....

If he hasn’t built by now what makes you think he will in 2 yrs…even Gus said our nursery ain’t great..our depth is horrible…his recruiting has been horrible..haven’t had a major signing for yrs..salary cap issues with the big 3..no decent player wants to come here..what positives does he actually bring

When did Gus say that ? Last year everyone was saying our pathways program was one of the best in the comp.
We’ve won two junior titles in the last five years.

I respect and admire des and will always look back fondly on his first tenure

To all the fans who say he is the man for the job: do you think our team look well coached this year? Do you see strategy and structure in what we do. Do you see a gameplan? Do you see speed? Do you see adapting to the new rules? Do you see us following the lead of the top teams as to what works?

I dont see any of that and I worry that he just might not have it anymore

How would gus know. Seriously.
Last year we won Harold Matts and we're runners up in SG ball. Scott Fulton has done a great job with limited resources.

Having said that with the new Jamie Lyon (centre of excellence) its time for the club to put some money towards a junior academy.

Has everyone noticed since covid there's been no talk of clubs losing money or being close to going bust? Good reason under PVL the game is $$$$ and the clubs are getting good coin from the NRL. Despite the poor on field season i would expect manly to make money this year. Time to use that and invest in the future.

I wonder if Adam McEwen, the current Jersey Flegg coach, will progress to coaching NRL? His premiership winning Harold Matthews side played fantastic football last year. Of course, there were many talented players in that team, including Latu Fainu. Maybe he will be the one who can best develop the Isander players coming through our ranks?

He played 28 NRL games for Souths (second row & bench) in the mid nineties. His other job is Acting Manager Aboriginal Environmental Health Unit.

IMO, we only played a couple of games this year where line speed, players in motion and ball movement matched the top sides. These were against the Cowboys & Storm. However, we lacked the mental & physical intensity to maintain that momentum for a full eighty minutes.

If the rumours of slater coming to manly to replace Hasler are true I’ll jump for joy
I doubt that would happen. Apart from some specialist coaching work at the Storm, Slater has a very good media career. He is the best fit coach fo the QLD Origin side. If he were to take on NRL coaching, he would become ineligible to coach QLD. At some future time, if he wanted to coach NRL, he wouldn't need to come to Sydney - he would have his choice of South QLD teams (& maybe also the Storm).

Des is a ****ing disgrace and LOL at the fans who still find a a way to somehow defend him.

Awful coach who is completely lost in the modern game. Rides and dies by DCE who is the worst player and contract we’ve ever seen come by the club. Garrick and Jake are ruled out and he runs with a 4th choice winger in Smalley and a useless forward in De Luis rather than legitimate talented youngsters in Weekes and Fulton. Continues to play the likes of Taupau, Walker, Davey & and even Fox with them leaving in a matter of weeks whilst giving us disgraceful results.

By the way Parker has played nearly 100 games but wouldn’t do so at any other club. Slowest player in the comp, awful defender and has feet for hands. Says a lot about where we’re at when he’s coming back from injury and we’re meant to get excited

Hard to argue with this at all

Has anyone done the stats on how many games has des coached where Tom has actually played since Des return in 2019. It would have to be 50 percent max surely.

Imagine having a job for 4 years and your best and most expensive resource is only available 50 percent of the time and you are judged on results in that period.

Manly has never won a premiership under a coach who wasn't a Manly player. I doubt Manly have even reached a grand final under anyone else. Not even Graham Lowe could do it.

Which means who? Sail on with Des? Back to Toovey? Ivan Cleary, but its not as if he played many first grade games for Manly. Phil Blake has had some success in RU only.

Manly is now entering into its longest premiership drought era since start of the 1970s.

We have entered a new era, much like St George. Both clubs have been great but population and demographic changes, and money, have rendered both clubs as suburban also rans, destined to finish closer to the wooden spoon than a premiership. St George, however, has the advantage of a huge pool of juniors from the Illawarra, a proven talent nursery. So they have a glimmer of hope.
We have Blacktown.
We have no money, hence the owners try to increase revenue by bastardising our jersey and colours with gimmicky outfits; selling naming rights to Brookie to gambling and alcohol companies; and we have a turnover of administration staff that makes me wonder if the front door to head office is a turnstile.

Des was given a 2nd chance. Odd considering everything that went down between the 2 of them.

Only after Penn came out in the Media saying Michael Maguire was the man they wanted and offered him the job ... and Maguire laughingly said you have to be kidding ...

I think Penn was forced to accept Dessie by the then CEO .....

And if I was a fan of Machiavelli I would say that Mestrov has been employed by Penn to put an end to the Dessie years ...
