When Manly were at the Sunshine Coast it didnt interfere with the junior structure or other third level feeder structures. I would assume that the Blacktown affiliation only applies as a first grade feeder. But Peninsula and Belrose I would assume would still be used as third level feeders as they are now and the juniors would still have Manly affiliations but with supplementary players from the Blacktown district. Or am I seeing this inaccurately. If it is that way, it the best of both worlds. Mounties dont interfere with Canberra juniors and same with Souths and Norths.

I may be wrong, but the way I read it Bear, was that Manly's reggies would play and train at Blacktown.

Too close and too far away too be practical for mine for the fringe players.

Maybe that needs to be clarified more clearly by the club itself.

Blacktown under wing of Sea Eagles

Some league figures seething after partnership with Workers
IT WAS the joint venture the Sea Eagles felt they had to make to ensure they are sustainable as a club long term.

The Sea Eagles have formed a joint venture with Blacktown Workers, starting next season.
As from next season, Manly will form a partnership in the Intrust Super Premiership with Blacktown Workers.

Final details still need to be ratified with the NSW Rugby League but Sea Eagles chief executive Joe Kelly is excited about what potentially awaits.

“We expect our application to be favourably considered,’’ he told the Manly
Daily yesterday. “It is a model which has worked well for other NRL clubs – look at Canberra with Mounties and Parramatta with Wentworthville.

“Blacktown (Workers) have stability on and off the field and facilities in place for success. “It’s also a huge growth area in Sydney, a market we are keen to tap into.”

Negotiations began in February, with the likes of Kelly, Bob Fulton, Brett Fulton and chief financial officer Neil Bare, all heavy players behind the scenes.

Manly first grade coach Trent Barrett and his assistant John Cartwright also had important roles.

News of the joint venture has not pleased everyone, with Peninsula Seagulls cocoach Scott Pethybridge quick to voice his disappointment.

“As an ex Manly player and local resident, as well as my connection with the Seagulls, I think it is disgraceful,’’ he said.

“It makes our junior rugby league irrelevant.

“I also think the (Manly) heirarchy involved need to take a good, hard look at themselves.

“No thought has gone into local players, and I think we will struggle to survive as a team (in the Sydney Shield) beyond this year.

“What is the point if the (Manly) club is going in a different direction?”

A similar feeder club partnership with the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles produced halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, who cut his teeth in the Queensland Cup before his NRL debut in 2011

Jeez I bet Brett brought some words of wisdom to the table.

Holden Cup is getting ****canned anyway

My understanding is that the Under 20s concept wont be scrapped but rather changed into a state based comp to help reduce costs, and the best teams from Queensland and NSW will then play off at years end. I may be wrong here but they wouldnt scrap junior comps because that would open the door for other sports to steal our future stars.

was out at H.E Laybutt today (Workers home ground). Looks pretty grand from the entrance, but once you get past the club the canteen and dressing shed are the same as they were in the 80's. In saying that, the sheds are not your typical club footy sheds, they are quite big and have a large shower room. The carpark down the football fields end has changed and have a more dedicated space instead of the open gravel landscape where it was park wherever you want.

The fields could use some attention, but overall it is a great ground and urge manly supporters out west to get down there next year and give us player updates.

Absolutely. Living close by, it'll provide those out West with a great chance to support the club from the top down.

The complex itself is quite good, generally pretty busy with both league and soccer over the weekends, but with the workers club directly next to the fields it's a top place to watch the footy and grab a beer and meal on a Saturday arvo.

It's heaps closer than the Sunshine Coast, and that was our reggies team back when we were a top 4 team.

How well off is this Blacktown workers club? Moving up a grade they will bring some of there current best players up. We will hang onto a hand full of nsw or NYC players. The rest of our top 25 will play for them. But are they likely to have the funds to go out and buy more nsw cup talent to make them a power house in reggies?

interesting, I didn't think they owned that land, it's been scrub since i was a boy. What is doesn't explain is why not leave the fields and build the seniors housing in the vacant land? Maybe they are looking to really bring their fields, sheds and surrounding areas up to scratch.
Unfortunately the article says they are only building soccer and rugby fields. Where will the league teams play? Brookie?

Of course some of the ignorant out there in gaga land dont see the difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League. Just variations of the same game

Blacktown seems to already be well endowed with AFL, Soccer, Rugby, Baseball grounds !! where are all the League grounds? seems the area they occupy now is bigger than where they are proposed to be .
