Its a tricky choice he had to make. Does he go for broke, pay back ended contracts, for a couple of premierships even if it means a couple of years of struggle to follow, or does he play it safe and therefore not be able to afford some of the stars and therefore risk not winning the premierships but continuing to have the club competitive. If he came back and used the back ended contracts again, we would probably win another premiership by 2020-22. But by 2024-5 we would again be at the bottom of the comp. Alternatively he could come back, play it safe, ensure Manly stays healthy throughout, but probably an also ran throughout. What choice would fans take?
By the way my hatred of Ha$ler isn’t so much the back ended deals , it’s what he did and tried to do on leaving.

He would have destroyed the club if he could have , virtually burn it to the ground AND some on here want him back!!!

**** Ha$ler

Back ended deals [ or extensive] back ended deals have and will most likely continue to be no guarantee of premiership success. The imbalance or clear advantage in superior T P A's is probably still one oft the biggest factors in elevating a club's premiership prospects . The Storm has almost three times the average amount in T P A ;s then most N R L clubs and of course this has provided a big advantage for them . Des thought that he could manipulate back ended deals just before and after he left Manly, and mainly for his benefit and status and even allowing for his good record for the Manly successes of 2008 and 2011 , back ended deals were not a big factor for these outcomes .

I wonder if Des will wake up one day and realise that money isn’t everything. Sure he may have a waterfront home at Collaroy Basin and millions in the bank however he would likely need a security escort if he ever went anywhere near Belmore again and despite almost 30 years at Manly his actions as he left the club have made him so unpopular he can’t even do a lap of honour in celebration of the ten year premiership he won.

Des just wants to be loved.

Has anyone got any idea why a Jamie Lyon is upset with the club?

Snake attended his farewell last year so he can’t be that angry.

I don’t think he was far away Jen eagle
Was certainly with some of the boys on both Friday night and Saturday
Gifty was playing footy
Killer had another engagement

Don’t forget we made a GF in 2013 and would have another title if not for Shayne Hayne. We were at the top of the tree 2007-2013. 2014-2015 were lean years because of Des, and even they wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for the halves contract disaster. Then we opened the chequebook again for the 2016 season when Barrett arrived. I don’t think you can pin what happened after that on Des - he didn’t stuff up the DCE negotiation or sign Myles or Brown.

Des didn't build Manly's success on back ended deals. he may have used back ended deals to try and keep the team together when the individual players values skyrocketed but he built the team of cheap castoffs and young players with promise. He splashed out on Orford, Lion, Kite and, probably, Bell (I'm not privy to their contracts) but most of the others he developed as players. That's why the Bulldogs threw a fortune at him. They had successful junior teams but couldn't turn that into premiership success. They thought Des would be the man to build a premiership factory for them. Funny (genuinely funny) how it went exactly the opposite way.

That 750K is just the registered TPA's, you forgot about the other contracts.

Compare that to Manly whose 250K is now on the cap and a 330K reduction as well as Myles' 500K so all up the Storm are playing with a cap + TPA's of 1.83M greater than we are.

Seems a level playing field, just more level for some.

Hasler. There was a lot of hate in the club at the time. The same hate that saw toovey departure which we dont accept gracefully.mthe hate hasler endured was no different he just went about it differently
The club hate cost us hasler and toovey just differently.
Hasler stafff had to endure the hate as well. Maybe he was just looking after staff that would have met with the same fate as toovey

There was, he couldn’t wait until we could celebrate the GF win before he turned the place on it’s head. He oversaw a massive rebuild at the club and brought us 2 premierships and 3 GF appearances. For that part he will have my respect. But from the 2011 GF he got and still has no respect from me. Both he and Greenberg did everything possible to rip the place apart. The only thing that held it together was Tooves. Had any other blow in coach come in it would have been even worse.

Reading this thread again was fun .... amazing how opinions can change ...... this was one of the best ...

Hasler has not only stalled the Dogs style of play he has also stalled the Players careers with his robotic and predictable coaching .
One example is how Ennis style of play flourished at the Sharks and he openly criticized Haslers coaching tactics
Hasler has become the most hated club coach in the NRL
The latest from the Kennel after anther loss tonight .........

Wtf does des have to do to this club to get ****ed off
'Extremely disappointing again' even a ****tard like fatty can see how **** we are. But master coach can't.

Even dumb cnt Hadley can't work out why we have Lichaa on the bench as he only plays 5mins.....Sterlo laughed and said tge same thIng.
Only our dumb cnt coach does this....no one else.
How many losses in a row do we have now?

5 years of total control on recruitment, training, retention and every thing you can think of
and this is what we get.
why do we continue to watch this ****
We are the slowest team in the comp. nice recruiting Des you ****wit
LMFAO season officially over. Let's just forfeit the rest of the season to stop it getting embarrassing.
This is the worst Bulldogs side in history.
