I know I guy who knows a guy who knows another guy all of us no nothing and have no contacts with the club or anyone at the NRL. They reckon we are going after Chris Sandow. Just thought I'd share a rumour I made up.

Have you thought about a job as a Sydney based sports journalist, specialising in NRL stories, as you seem to have the technique down pretty well.....

OK, a serious discussion ... based on the premise that Thurston, Morgan or any other 5/8 is not signed and only Manly players still alive are eligible. The contenders are ...

a) Matthew Wright ... Solid, dependable and has skills, His lack of genuine pace not a disadvantage and his best game for the Eagles was when he played 5/8. Seems to relish the extra work and involvement. Won't set the world on fire but won't disappoint. Reasonable goal kicker.

b) Jackson Hastings ... The most obvious choice, a ton of talent and overdue for his redemption shot at the big time .. why it has been so long in coming may be the issue.
Good goal kicker.

c) Tom Wright ... Has plenty of support from the bleachers but may be ear-marked as a centre. Plenty of talent but for mine is not ready for the position and responsibility of 5/8.

d) Lachlan Croker ... A dark horse .. need more info .. but with a fine name like Lachlan he comes from good stock.

e) Metcalf ... Another 20's wunderkinder ... ??

f) Cade Cust ... Love a cowboy and a longshot ... DCE to 5/8 and Cust to half ...

Edit g) Cameron Cullen ... Love the guy's energy and talent .. will continue to star in reggies ... his arms are too short for firs grade ...

Fixed it (thanks)

he played 5/8 for Parra last year and was reported as the best in the comp before he was injured. He held Parra together. I remember watching him in junior rep games and though he played full back, he acted regularly as a second 5/8. He's good at both.
He was no where near the best 6 in the comp, wasnt even the best 6 in his own team. He was a horrible 6, his defence was horrid and lead the nrl for most line breaks caused through his own defence. Some pretty looking tries doesnt make you a 6. All he did was run and thats not a good 6. His kicking game was basically non existent. Not a 6.

Too early to say . Barrett still has that 850 K to spend. We could have another better option .

You'd think Hastings. If he puts in a massive pre season, I can't see why he won't get first shot....i mean FMD they gave Walker a go, how bad can it be?

Interesting that you mention Waker .. just proves that having the "skills" is not enough.

In my opinion a 5/8 more than any other position has to be a student of the game, somebody than can read not only the game but also the mood of the game.

Good 5/8's tend to be slightly older ... for this reason I like DCE to 5/8 and a young goer to half .. let Cherry pick his times to put things on.

Well there are few who agree with you Turbo. He won the top player for Parramatta Award finishing only 3/4 of the games. He was being discussed before his injuries as the best 5/8 of the year by many media judges. Despite playing only 18 games he was still 7th in the list on Dally M Awards He scored 11 tries 49 goals (being their goal Kicker) averaged 12 tackles per games 113 metres per game, .8 breaks per game and .3 try assists per game. Name me one five eighth in the game that could compare with those figures. I think you've got your players confused Turbo. Gutherson was devastating

Gutho was so devastating and irreplaceable at 5/8 that Parra signed Moses to partner Norman in the halves .
