Will we start favourites for next year's spoon?

Dogs have had a clean out, Pay has done what a Toovey or Des would do here, he has them back on track after 12 months, they have developed some kids, their fans can see the plan and support him to the hilt.

Cows have found a half, Morgan was injured all year. The Big ex storm prop was out all year. The still need to bring in a bit more youth, but they are tracking up.

Eels look like they will try and buy there way out of another spoon. Cap Investigation could sink them, but they could be top 4 next year too.

Manly just looks leaderless. This media fight may be all about a pay out figure. But the Club is damaging it's own brand in the process.

A Mr fix it coach is looking unlikely.

Nothing to get excited about in recruitment circles.

The turn over of general managers, CEO. I'll add coaches.

Something looks rather broken out at Brookvale. Perhaps people can't work with Penn. I have no idea. But it can hardly be said we are finishing 2018 how we want to start in 2019.

May be I am way off the mark? Where do you see Manly finishing in 2019 as at now?

I agree. We will probably be worse next season. Our reserves and Under 20s missed out on the finals so there is very little talent coming through compared to other clubs.
We have poor management, owners who are only prepared to lose a few million per season, and an NRL hierarchy who are anti everything on the northern side of the Harbour.
Doesn'tmatta lost $9-M last season apparently but that was paid by the Leagues Club. Their reward? A brand new stadium.
It was a similar story at the Dogs and the 'Riff who were bailed out by a Leagues Club.
We won't even have a League Club in 2019.
We can't compete financially, and we are no longer a strong enough club to recruit top players.

The positive is if Cartwright and Ferris are around, I won't be watching, so it won't matter tbh.

All Ice Hockey for me from that point.

Our current culture is a losing one!! This team concedes clumps of points in a row and we dont have halves who game manage they way they need to be.

We need a tough coach and we need to invest in young players, the lack of enthusiasm we have seen this year needs to change.

The owners have it all to do and the decisions that they make are going to be telling.

My fear is the worst is still to come!!

Don’t forget the Cowboys were considered one of the hot favourites this year.

How you can suggest that we’ll be favourites to run last before the end of the previous season is beyond me!

There’s a LOT of water to travel under the bridge between now and the start of the 2019 season.

Before the kick off of the 2007 season Gould wrote an article in which he gave his opinion on the chances of each club. He said we were favourites for the spoon. I’d settle for another 2007. A man can dream can’t he?

Definately some preseason inspiration if there was any. Not such a bad thing

We lacked a 5/8 in 2018, Elgey will fix that AND his defence is no worse than Blake Green’s.

A fit Sirronen ( which we haven’t had yet) will be a huge bonus, he’s been missed more than you think.

We need two wingers , Anderson may well be one, if we still have Tafua I’m guessing he’s the other ( although comes with some downsides). Suli May end up as one of those also, especially as Walker will be back at 3.

We need another good running edge forward, who may end up being a permanent 13 or a permanent benchie.

And we need some decent ( not plodders) back up players , the likes of Perrett / Winterstein do NOT cut the mustard.

Regardless of who’s coaching ( although that would have an impact ) if we don’t lose any stars and gain the above we will be very competitive in 2019.

Yeah spot on MFB.

We have 3 first grade centres now so I guess Suli will end up on the wing. I cant see the new coach (if not Cartwright) playing walkz at 5/8. Fortunately, wingers are not the hardest position to replace.

Siro, Thompson and Jake are a solid 11-13. With the interchange rule likely to head to 6 in a season or 2, we really want to start planning for long minute forwards.

Agree with everything you’ve said mate. Elgey will prove to be a handy pick up, his passing alone will give our backs more ball. Has a decent kicking game as well .Get him tackling every day to help his defence.

Feki/Maumolo on one wing. Anderson on the other.
Maybe look at Ethen Lowe as a bench second row. Or someone in the same vein.
