Whilst consuming a few beers on Saturday night at the pub with some mates and watching the league/cricket/rugby we had the inevitable conversation about great players etc. Then the question was posed, if given the choice which player would you have liked to have been for each sport. This was an interesting exercise as it gave an insight into what qualities appeal to certain personalities, and reflected a lot about their attitude to sport. Ultimately most of the choices were undeniably great players, but it was the subtle things that made them great that set the trend for each person doing the rating. We also picked an outright number 1 choice overall across all sports. Mine were as follows

League Back: Brett Kenny
League Forward: Brad Clyde

Union Back: Campo
Union Forward: Phil Kearns

Cricket Batsmen: Mark Waugh (Overall No. 1 for me)
Cricket Bowler: D K Lillee

AFL: Gary Ablett

Tennis: Thought McEnroe was the best I ever saw, but couldn't cop some of his antics, so I opted for Agassi.

Motor Sport: Valentino Rossi

Feel free to add some other sports if you like, like soccer ( i don't watch enough of it to have a definite opinion)
 
League: Wayne Bennett (as coach)

Union (Eddie Jones as coach, not player)

Cricket: Bevan! lived in Manly and played like a champ

Tennis is for poofs

Motor Sports: dont know and dont care

Football: Best (who else, sex drugs and football)
 
Union Back: Naas Botha or Chris Anderson (5/8th for Rhodesia and a wonderfully talented player that bested Gareth Jones and Co. when they toured).
Union Forward: Neville Jenkinson (captained Zimbabwe in the 80s.)

League Back: Wally Lewis - the antagonistic mastermind
League forward - Nik Kosef - magic, tough and talented.

Tennis: John McEnroe

Cricket batsman: Viv Richards
Cricket Bowler: Curtly Ambrose

AFL: Gary Williams - playmaker for Swans and Carlton.

Motor Sports - Ayrton Senna
