Who’s “ stepping up” in 2025

Locky crocker. While he isnt a classic hooker he has been doing it a few years now and every year he has improved, maybe not as fast as we would like. Last year a big injury really dented his progress and brought him back a bit in the process

Competition is heating up and while he is slow he has a footy brain and is a tough bastard. If his injury concerns are behind him i think he will have his best year. Competition brings out competitors .

Have to take into account the longer term commitments last season to the likes of Haumole , Paseka , Koula , Saab and as a consequence , limiting somewhat short term and higher profile additions but would definitely seem on balance the right move .
Would have been maybe an opportunity to get a bit of talent in instead of Alioia "s contract extension some time ago and that is another matter but was generally recognized , not a lot of really well credentialed players on the market in season 24 .
Again also the 200 k ongoing hit with Shu leaving the Manly camp .
Look to have done good getting the likes of Walsh and Large and a few other promising up and comers into the system and who is to say the new and mainly seasoned forward additions can not provide some decent value .
So many factors to consider and that come into play but were not that far off the pace last season to match it with the big guns and to almost crack the top 4 .
Reverse a few of those disappointing losses against the less ranked sides , improve to whatever helpful level overall in defence and a reasonable run on the injury front and why shouldn "t some better results not be in the offering next season .
Still looks like nothing happening with extending the contracts of Bully and Talau but maybe i have missed something

Seibold has shown with Hoppa that if a young bloke puts in the hard yards and impresses during the preseason.

Opportunity will happen.

Travelling to Vegas wasn't an accident, and Tui to the dragons might have been another flow on of how good his preseason was.

This Preseason all our young forwards should be pushing each other higher and higher.

Impress enough opportunity awaits.

Read recently of talk about Turbo to 5/8 and young Hoppa to full back when DCE hangs up his boots. Memories of Lockyer's move which proved very successful

May have placed the [ my ] above post in the wrong thread category but in terms of players hopefully stepping up a bit .
Definitely Simpkin and maybe too much to ask for both but also definitely Alioia and to a lesser extent Burbo

Different playing styles Bear, and whoever suggested Turbo to a 6 role can hardly have that good a take on things N R L related .
Still , continues to be successful transitions to 6 at a top level from a or an initial fullback position .
Munster, Jack Wighton[ occasionally ] Gutho would most likely go well there on a regular basis

i reckon he is up for it. would be very brad fittler like at 6 with his natural instinct is to run. while playing in the line does come with its physical extras getting early ball would spell big time problems , his power, explosiveness off the mark, and his rangey body and manlys danger men everywhere outwide. wow. he is already highly marked and gang tackled due to manlys repitition on using him, he plays an extra fwd at times so i thin k the workload and physicality thing is a myth

i also think it would revitalise jakes game as they could again play off eachother which they once did so well

i think the dude would have a decent bomb in him, not sure of his tactical kicking game, its looked suss so a need to balance the kicking game with brooks and who seems to be the stumbling block considering lehi seems to be up next

hooker, froggy, this is your time buddy to rise up or.........we need a superboot 9, anyone know if the conlons did any breeding

My suprise step up:

Jake Arthur To Lock

Hoppa to cement a spot in 13 and there will be some movement required around Garrick, Koula and Trbo

Patolo to second row and by round 10 will be the comps most talked about second rower along with Hamouli.

The Telegraph headlines will be
Manlys Beast Mode Pairing.

Taukei’aho to be back to his best and the bruise brothers combination with Brown will be born at Brookie.

Joey Walsh will also debut and show his class.

I also think Jazz T will get lots of match time and become the new fan fav for 2025, with many on ST crying out why Seibs doesn't play him more.

Trbo/ Hoppa
Saab
Garrick
Koula
Trbo / Garrick
Brooks

Paseka
Simpkin
Jrbo
Olakau’atu
Patolo
J Athur

Res: Bullemore, Aloiai, Taukei’aho, Brown

Stby: Sipley, Waddell, Chee Kam, Jazz, Croker, GKT…

If everything ran exactly the same as last year, and Toff Sipley turned into Manly's version of AFB or JFH, we would have been top four.

Toff has been around long enough to know what's required, he's got the size and strength to mix it with almost anyone - the ball's in your court, Toff.

All our other forwards cop it fair bit in terms of dominating a game; TS never seems to be on the field for long stints, not too often mentioned in MOTM lists, out injured, playing for Blacktown, etc.

I'm hoping that his friendship with Taukeiaho turns into a mentorship of learning how to stamp your authority on a game.

Toff seems like a nice guy, but 2025 is the year he needs to turn on beast mode.

Having watched Turbo's style, he does a lot of what I would identify as 5/8 type play, running in to create gaps for outside backs.. His roving stile is actually quite similar to Lockyer, though he's a little quicker and stronger. Watched him in the centre closer to the action and he was outstanding. It also means stretching out on big runs is reduced thereby reducing pleasure on those ham strings. He's a good play maker. I've often thought he make a dominant 5/8 of a Wally Lewis type, though much quicker than Lewis

Agreed - Turbo would be a dangerous 5/8 as both runner and create plenty of space when passing, as defenders swarm when he has the ball....I think his only deficiency would be kicking game, though also not convinced of his head on defence until tested

Put Turbo in any position on the field and he will be Dangerous
He has the Size for the Forwards and the Speed and Skill for any other position
I believe at his Best he is Arguably the Best Number one in his Best position on the field

Given Turbo was also an AFL/Syd Swans prodigy as a young fella maybe his kicking game might be a hidden talent
I remember him saying on some podcast or something, can't remember which, that he "used to be able to kick". Also apparently used to be able to kick goals as well.

Worth noting he kicked some average bombs on like two occasions this year, and in the SF vs Roosters, kicked for touch off a penalty. I have no idea why.

Agreed Bozo. Great full back and had he escaped injury over so many years he would have challenged Eadie for my best Manly full back. A shame we never saw that consistency and frightening skills of 2021, every year. But we now have another potentially outstanding full back in young Hopoate. If he develops and Turbo manages at least another three of four years , if not more, then such a decision may be necessary of we'll lose the kid like we've lost so many before. Brisbane had Karmichael Hunt, a top full back around 2009 so Lockyer moved to 5/8. It worked. They almost made it to the grand final.
