We were blessed at centre

Watching some old games
Mick O'Connor
What a freak
He joins us 1987 and win and MASSIVELY part of that
I'd add Shearer but he played everywhere
Then Lyon who imo was just ridiculous
So skilful and if he was a hog would have doubled his tries
Let's hope our 2025 centres can show this type of skill as they have the pace but the Legends set high standards....and I love it
Go Manly ❤️

Frank Stanton
Alec Tennant
John McDonald
Bozo Fulton
Ray Branighan
Frogeyes Gartner
Steve Knight
Snoz O'Connor
Darrell Williams
Tezza Hill
Craig Innes
Steve Bell
Steve Matai
Jamie Lyon
to be continued...
What an incredible list. If I had to pick my best 2 starting centres of all time I would have to go Jamie and Snoz. These guys seemed to glide over the park with feet barely touching the ground. Bozo best at 5/8 for mine.

Igor debuted in the centres and played there for a season and a bit before Ron Willey moved him to the engine room

Noel Cleal
Ron Gibbs

Both ended up in the forwards but they were also a terror at centre.

Chris Close
Darrel Williams
Kevin Iro
Peter Gallagher
Dylan Walker

Some didn't reach their peak or were just good in the role.

1000%. sure they played in different eras but class always comes to the top.

Quite right. O'Connor's last game for Manly was in 1992. Lyon's first game for Manly was in 2007, though his career started in 2000. Excellent combination, but I think Lyon-Fulton was a superior combination, and would have been lethal outside Cliff Lyons and Toovey or DCE

Some quality big bodies above, Choppy the stockiest of them all.

With the lack of quality playmakers in the game I see a need for the bigger body type centre, Jack Howarth made a good impression there last season for Melbourne, predominantly a backrower who played well.

I go against the grain of many but I thought Ben Trbojevic played some good football at centre, he had that poor game against the Rorters where Teddy made him look ordinary, though outside of that he was good at right centre.

The amount of work centres do now with the hard carries coming out of their own 50 metre zone, I would like to sacrifice on the right edge some speed for a bigger bodied centre, it has been effective at the club having big centres for a long time.
