Wayne Cousins ( Media Manager)

The law has changed around this a lot over the last few years.
Namely you could make someone redundant and hire someone else the next day, all you have to do is show that there has been a change to the business financial position which could be as simple as an invoice being paid
Some things never change feathered friend and that is Winning Premierships never goes out of fashion
And the people that can not live up to their own Results driven business criteria
Should do the honorable thing by the club and step aside and give some one else the opportunity to bring our long awaited Premiership Winning change

Ummm ok. I was just answering Ryan's question mate

Premiership Wining Prosperity is our Priority
We are All accountable at the Manly Sea eagles
From the Boardroom to the Cleaners room

Know nothing about the new guy nor the skills of the old guy but if they are moving to a more digital / AI world then perhaps that’s the reason.

Mate with all due respect that is not the role of a media / coms person

They could have many tasks (like membership or earned media reach) which could have an impact but it is unfair to lump them with winning a premiership

Also Facebook is a dumpster fire for marketing - unless you are after white males over 45…

Completely agree with this.

Think about Des shutting down the media department's freedom, compared to Seibs. The Manly Way, and the level of access Seibs allowed, brought memberships above 20k, led us to selling out 8/10 home games, all while coming off a season where we finished 12th.

Improving and adapting to new media is a legitimate means by which our footy can genuinely improve.

The Tigers, through their absolutely terrible season, still had several sell-outs. Compare that to 2018, where a TV audience would've assumed our NRL side was the reserve grade, judging by the empty Brooky. We weren't even the worst NRL side that year.

I've had a scan of the Tigers in-house media, very much suited to modern audiences, including an in-house podcast series, while still having the uploads of the Summer Squads, which we are still to this day missing.

Thanks mate. Guess I'm old school, where people, families, livelihoods, loyalty etc all still matter and are important.

I really feel workers rights are diminished these days. I also think HR as an industry has become so pathetic & entitled.

Problem is the job market. Abundant supply for so little demand. That, and AI, largely becoming an important part of the process.

I've recently (as you know) been made redundant. We had a team of 9 all let go. There's literally only two of us left, and they've made us senior lawyers (not comparable to my old role at ALL - Senior Industry Specialist - commercial banking). Something I'm clearly out of my depth with, but learning. During the redundancy process, I was being read scripted commentary in meetings with senior management and HR. I literally felt like a widget. A number.

I've become so disillusioned with people and life man. I hate to think how it will be for our kids. Not just in the job sector either. I mean, overall. We take on more and more responsibility, and also become more and more invisible to family, friends, colleagues - everyone.

So yeah, I feel for Wayne tbh mate. Sometimes, new and modern isn't always better. New and modern also means less individuality, character, imagination & uniqueness in my books.

I'm just SURE the NRL want to make every clubs media bland, consistent, in a box, the same, governed, restricted etc. Wayne probably isn't a yes man, and is an individual....and we just can't have that anymore can we.

I'm no stranger to redundancy, I work in sales. Was made redundant in feb last year for the second time in my career. I don't really mind it, it's always an opportunity to refresh and do something new

Thank you @silvereagle for clarifying
Please feel us all in on this new and different Chris warren JD role in detail
I am not privy to the specific role here but more to the generic role. With the wealth of multi media tools available these days to most marketing and promotions people, it means you can get out to more people and more specifically targeted demographics much quicker and much better. So for example in Chris Warren's new role I would be "Job Goaling" current 15k Eagles members against +267k residents in the area. One of the key job goals I would think would be to get the membership number to at least 10% of local population. Another target would % of membership in that 18-25 demographics. Another target would be # kids attending matches etc. This would be in addition to of course managing media, sponsorships, game day promotions, team information and promotions, Manly Way videos etc etc. Big job. Great job. Likely split between several people.

One thing I have learned is that never to get too comfortable in a Job. Always have or at least work towards a plan B. ( even if working in the public sector) Make sure whatever you are doing is making you marketable in some way, if not…be preemptive and find a role that is. Once you get over 50 it is a lot harder to find a job it is not always because you are behind the times so to speak it’s that you don’t appear as malleable to younger leaders….who want in a lot of cases someone they feel they can shape…Once you get over 50 you have to be even more strategic, the days of walking into a new job easily are over no matter how qualified and experienced you are…

Happy New Year feathered friend , and thank you for you reply

My last post was all about Every one at the club being Accountable for our clubs overall failure for success and not just the Media Manager

As for Dumpster Marketing fires There was no Greater Marketing farce than that Dumb one that derailed our club The Rainbow Marketing Mess and Cuzzo was not part of that

Premiership Wining Prosperity is our Priority
We are All accountable at the Manly Sea eagles
From the Boardroom to the Cleaners room

The Faceless Manly Men that Approved This Unprofessional and Embarrassing Rainbow Marketing Mess that divided our Legendary club and All Manly people on and off the field were Missing when it came to front the Media .
No accountability what so ever from them . Appalling Leadership
Great Leaders lead from the front
They don't hide behind the scenes when it Matters most

I am not privy to the specific role here but more to the generic role.
Thank you for your attempt to explain this new Media role feathered friend
You would think that this new Manly Media concept that has the capacity to reach out to more Manly people would have reached out to us Manly People and have fully informed us of this Great New Media role in Detail .
The difference between ordinary Marketing and Great Marketing
Is Indeed attention to Detail Chris Warren

There is a lot of finger pointing at our club
The point is that the ones in charge that Make our clubs decisions are the ones most accountable and responsible for our clubs end results .

The moral of the story
Without Accountability there is no Growth
and We can never Grow with the Wrong People in charge

My brother in law is a lecturer for QUT here in QLD.

Has a PHD , very smart guy.

He specialises now in AI.

Honestly it’s terrifying , the job losses in the next decade will be horrific in a lot of industries.

He gave me a good example

Big law firm , usually employing loads of junior solicitors who mostly research for big cases.

What takes a team of 20 juniors a week to do , AI can do in 30 minutes.

It’s happening now and will get worse & worse.

I fear for my grandkids.

What takes Smart run clubs like the Panthers 4 years to win 4 Premierships
It takes decades by the Mediocre run clubs to make the finals

Success starts from the top and I fear for all the clubs that do not move on from leaders that keep leading them away from success

The moral of the story
Life has never been fair or at an even scale
Because the Smart people will always rule the roost

I don’t think it will be that bad because AI doesn’t actually think. All it really does is glorified quantitative analysis ( can cross reference huge amounts of data ( on a massive!!!scale) and look for correlation etc, it runs off simple algebra based principles. Human thinking for most 🙂 is significantly more sophisticated than this. In regards to your example someone will need to critique the research and make sure it is revelant etc. Juniors will be needed to do some type of sh!t Kicker tasks still remaining at a lower cost than fully trained seniors…. Law firms will need up and coming lawyers or there will be no future for the business. Remember AI doesn’t actually really think and that’s not likely to change anytime soon despite the hype… it will just get faster and more powerful at what it does….

It is an interesting field especially when you hear that google is more worried about it replacing traditional search engines (which is why they are trying to work out how to safe guard their cash cow)
