Yes the club runs on the smell of an oily rag these days but all the more reason to be innovative and use up all available resources.
This idea would certainly be unconventional - but ... why not tap into the footy knowledge of fans? Us!
Des is renowned as a workaholic, but I reckon there'd be some here on ST who put him to shame, watch all the games and probably more than once. And have been doing this for years. So why wouldn't their knowledge of the game be just as valid, if not more so, than an ex-player. Especially if the ex-player took a lot of head knocks or for whatever reason is simply not seeing things as clearly as in the past.
Maybe Dan can approach the club and offer, say, our top 5 (and we could elect them) to attend each week as an advisory panel, not with decision-making power but simply to give Des the benefit of our point of view. We could give advice about team selections, strategies, and recruitment. (And probably much more.)
Not talking about myself here (obviously!) we have many passionate and dedicated followers who would never pretend to be students of the game.
However several of our regulars clearly have very astute footy judgment and deep knowledge of the game and players, thinking of the likes of Maxta, James, maybe Technical Coach, even a couple of our newest members show impressive depth of footy smarts.
Thoughts?
