Walker Brother's coaching style suit 2023 game style/rules?

I was thinking last night, the Walker brothers, although somewhat out of the box in their style might have certain aspects of the game which would suit the current rules. They had a lot of smaller forwards (ie Blake Leary / Tanginoa types) who were quick and can tackle all day and can get over the advantage line quickly. More importantly, the time in possession is the emphasis rather than the competition rate.
The high usage of the short dropout is already a staple of the current game, which was an idea invented by the Walker brothers. It could work but very risky style of coaching.

I like it. Bazball to footy. With a growingly irrelevant club in the contemporary sports landscape, it could be a way to stop ourselves being Tigers 2.0

Their style also suits a club with a small budget. Its more about the system. If you look at the team on paper, you would think its a pub team, but the high focus on the system and style of play overrides the big spotlight for individual talent.

They changed the game all those years ago from the Ipswich jets. In 2023 u will see more short kick offs at NRL level than any year prior. It's kind of strange that it has taken the top tier so long to come on board that a contest at every opportunity is what a coach when without the ball should be trying to achieve.

The Ipy Jets are currently running last ( or close to it ) in the W Cup.

I think Walkerball has had its day and it’s now proven faulty.
The Walker boys left the club a few years ago...and are currently looking around for an NRL gig.

The Walker Bros haven’t coached Ipswich for a couple of years now and even when they were there, they never really dominated the competition other than the finals series they won. They’re overhyped due to how “same same” NRL clubs have become but their methods aren’t revolutionary.Andrew Johns talked them up,that says everything you need to know

Ah ok , yes I used to be an avid watcher of the Q Cup but I haven’t for a few years now .

Very good call but fact is they are all about high risk/ low percentage plays
Would need to win 42 - 38 ever Week

until they started with their style of play the only time you saw a short drop out was if the defending team was behind and it was late in the game, now you see more short than long drop outs

Not to be rude but outside of suggesting that kick offs and drop outs be short, they haven’t changed the RL landscape. It got a bit of press a few years ago and it was quirky that two guys we co-coaches. It’s an interesting story but there is very little substance to it.

Also it should be noted that the rugby league inner sanctum is very tight-nit (everything and everyone is connected in some way) and if they were worth picking up, they’d have been picked up by now. It’s not as if their methods would be taken on face value, important people would know the ins and outs of what they do in running a team on a daily basis (methods and philosophy) and have chosen not to go there.

The Walkers style is based on 80% attack and 20% defence which is not a good balance at NRL level
Would need to win shootouts like 44 - 38 every week and the low percentage plays would be punished.
I do like the idea of "playing what's in front" more so than the rigid structures and the best team Penrith does it best, playing some an lib footy within a structure....helps to have great players also....

Wayne Bennett said their style would suit the NRL. So its subjective / the jury is out.

They actually would suit a team that could be a new franchise...ie Perth, etc. Where they can bring in the punters.
